Are you a Showtime insider? If so, you can watch the first episode of the third season of Weeds. Right now. I’ve been trying to watch it for two days, and am having trouble with it getting stuck and ceasing to function about halfway through, but I keep trying because what I’ve seen so far? It’s amazing!!! Meadowlands episode seven recap

meadowlands 1.7

With Danny desperate to escape the hell that is Meadowlands, the seventh episode is full of running and hiding and yelling and a few dramatic twists. All the stuff of a great Showtime drama, that’s for sure. In a sudden and rash move, Danny decides to have the bar ready to open in just two days’ time; this is a feat almost impossible to pull off, and it has Evelyn worried about Danny as he begins to spend all of his time in a mad dash to have everything ready. To occupy herself, she confronts Dr. York about his unmitigated and unexplained accusations the other day.

weeds 2.4

Another week, another great Weeds episode. Ready to begin growing finally, Nancy sets up an alter-ego named Lacy La Plante and gets her business going. Just as the lights are going in and the house is ready for weed, Nancy’s neighbors show up. They are also growers, Armenian, and led by a man named Keshishin, who threatens their very lives if they don’t move out of HIS neighborhood. In one of the best moments of the episode, Sanjay defends their behavior due to the oppressed past of their people. Gotta love Sanjay!

Shane runs into trouble at school when he learns he is quite possibly the last boy in his grade to have gotten a hand job. Now, correct me if I’m wrong here, but Shane’s in sixth grade (maybe even fifth!) and about to graduate grade school. Are kids getting hand jobs that young now?!??! (and did that just make me sound old?!?!?) Uncle Andy steps up to the plate and takes Shane to a massage parlor where he gets a “happy ending” and officially becomes a man (ish).

Isabelle is approached to star in a series of commercials for a clothing line meant for heavier children called Huskeroos. Despite Celia’s protests, or maybe because of them, Isabelle is even more determined to go to the auditions.

Finally, there’s Silas. Silas, who sabotaged his girlfriend’s future so they could be together. Because THAT’S love. Anyhow, now Megan’s pregnant, and apparently the two are determined to keep the baby. How long that will last is anyone’s guess. Silas might have looked happy about it, but Megan sure didn’t.

Last Tango In Agrestic - Weeds season two recaps

weeds 2.3

Not to be outshined by any episode prior, “Last Tango” begins and ends with serious hilarity and drama. Nancy is horrified to learn Peter knew she was a dealer, and after several glasses of wine is still unconvinced he will leave her business alone, instead seeking out bigger fish. In the end, the two fly to Vegas and get married, because now Peter cannot testify against her, and so he says her business is safe. It would appear neither of their families is aware of this arrangement, however, and it should be interesting to watch that explosion when they find out.

Celia puts her daughter in boot camp so she won’t be “the fattest girl at fat camp”, and then get guilted into participaing herself, subsequently spraining her cooch. At least she’s getting some exercise!

And Andy asks Yael (his Hebrew School principal) out to dinner. Suprisingly the ex-Israeli forces soldier says yes, and thus begins what I’m betting will be another short-lived and futile affair, potentially screwing up his Hebrew School enrollment.

But the kicker of the show? That would be Silas and Megan, and their brilliant idea to forgo breaking up and instead sex their way into the fall and Megan’s departure for college. Silas, Silas, Silas. You stupid little boy, what makes you think it’s a good idea to poke holes in condoms!?!? Because that’s exactly what he does, and I’m just waiting for that to blow up in his face. Megan doesn’t strike me as the type to give up Princeton for anything and anyone, and when she realizes his betrayal and sabotage she’s not going to be happy.

weeds 2.2

LIfe moves fast for Nancy, and after breaking it off with Peter she goes back to the day to day of finding and supplying a grow-house for her budding business. Conrad is out of the operation due to his issues with the Peter situation, but Nancy quickly learns that the rest of the men on her team are not as reliable as she’s hoped. The closest they can come to making it on their own is the “weed convention” she, Doug and Andy attend, althouh the men spend their entire time stoned. The day actually ends with the ever hilarious Andy curled up on the floor of the women’s room writing his Hebrew School essay on paper towels.

The plant the three pick up at the weed convention quickly dies, and Nancy is left with a team that has no grow house, no hydroponics equipment, and one member lost as their “muscle” heads off to play hockey in Canada. At a loss, she begins text-stalking Conrad, begging him to come back to the group.

Conrad has been having his own issues trying to get funding for his amazing plant. The entire neighborhood (possibly the entire city) is afraid of Heylia, so no one is willing to sponsor his idea, despite it’s brilliance and amazing weed. Left with no choice, Conrad and Nancy partner back up with the promise her relationship with Peter is over. Too bad he shows up at the house in the middle of family dinner, and drops the bomb on Nancy that he knows she’s a drug dealer!

Poor Silas isn’t exempt from the drama this episode either, as Megan gets accepted to Princeton and begins her preparations for college, and life without Silas. He decides to drop out of school his senior year so he can go to New Jersey and be with her, but she turns him down and they break up. Poor Silas .. for the first time ever he didn’t get what he wanted!

Next episode should be a good one as Nancy will have to decide what’s more important … her family and freedom or her business!

“Corn Snake” recap - Weeds season 2

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

weeds 2.1

The second season of Weeds picks up with this episode right where the first season left of - with Nancy discovering her newfound sex partner is also a DEA Agent. Leaving in a rush, she decides never to see him again, assuming there is no way he can know about her business.

With her children left to their own devices Silas has his girlfriend sleep over and Shane uses manipulation to make his mom feel bad about not checking in with him during the night. Is it me, or does that kid need to grow up a bit? I respect his issues after his father’s death, but there are some ways he acts more like an eight year old than a twelve year old.

After Celia’s car accident she approaches the city council for what she has decided is the last time. Her repeated pleas for a light at a specific intersection have gone unheeded and she has officially suffered the consequences. In order to make everyone pay, she decides to run for city council, attempting to oust Doug out of his seat.

Andy, meanwhile, attempts to get into rabbinical school in order to avoid heading off to war, and meets the sexy school headmistress. Who smells affair?!?! To top off a hilarious first episode of the season, Sanjay burns down the bakery so that Nancy can use the money to start her grow business!

Stick around as I recap more great season two episodes!

Meadowlands episode six recap - second try!

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

I’m back to try to recap this amazing episode one more time. With so much happening to the residents of Meadowlands this week, it’s hard to keep it all straight even just two days out, but i’ll certainly try to do just that for you. We watched Danny’s mental health deteriorate just a little bit farther, learned that Samantha’s upbringing might just be a lie, and saw Brenda try to end her affair with Mark.

It’s good to know, first off, that Danny Brogan is not truly losing it’s mind, but that instead Freddie has been instructed to mess with it. Finally being told that Freddie is not truly one of them, it does not ease Danny’s mind in any way to know that he has been the recipient of failed mental training in an attempt to help him transition to Meadowlands faster.

The woman behind this mental reprogramming? Samantha - Danny’s handler. Samantha has her own issues to deal with this episode as well, however. A phone call and a last-minute meeting with her father reveals much damage to her childhood. Samantha’s father is a professor, the man responsible for the ideas Meadowlands (and all the other communities that build up Cape Wrath) has been built on. In what turns out to be her last meeting with her father, she discovers that she is really Una, the little girl her father rescued from an abusive home many years ago. Una, who had no previous contact with humans (she’d been kept in a box until she was four), became an experiment to see if you could re-condition people’s minds. She is the proof that Meadowlands can work.

Samantha comes back from visiting with her dying father (he commits suicide after telling her he is dying), must then deal with Freddie having instituted the mental reprogramming gone wrong on Danny. Not that I think he’s fully recovered, but Danny at least knows the truth about Meadowlands and the people running it.

The Brogan family has plenty of other issues to deal with in this episode as well. Mark’s affair with Brenda continues to heat up the bedroom, although Brenda attempts to end the affair once again. Will it ever work? I doubt it, as Mark is rather persistent and enjoying his new-found passtime.

Evelyn’s got issues of her own, with Dr. York continuing to profess his love for her despite her repeated claims to not feel the same. When his wife Abigail goes shopping with Evelyn, she takes a dress back home and begins to play dress-up. Obviously knowing what her husband is feeling, she tells him to call her Evelyn while they make love, reassuring him by claiming it was Evelyn’s idea. After the steamy role-playing affair, he hunts down Evelyn to tell her just how disgusting she truly is. Trouble with that is that she has no idea what he’s talking about. I smell trouble and more drama in the next episode!

If I’ve forgotten anything I apologize, but stick around for the final three episodes!

Case Study: Tom Tyrell

Tom Tyrell

One of the great features to the Meadowlands website is their “character files”. They read like a personal dossier of each member of Meadowlands, with their current biographical info laid out for the world to see. However, many of their previous life files are blocked, and we as an internet community are only granted access as more is revealed about each character.

This week, the powers that be opened up the file to Tom Tyrell, and we learned this about him:
