“Lesbians Gone Wild” - L Word Recap

Monday, February 18th, 2008

lesbians-gone-wild.jpg

Because last week was so difficult, and I didn’t even get to watch this latest episode until Monday night, I’m giving you a list of my favorite moments rather than a detailed recap of the show. Sorry for any disappointment that might cause, but mama’s got life to get caught up on!

Jonathan Rhys Meyers News

Monday, February 18th, 2008

jonathan-rhys-meyers-helping.jpg

There’s some great news coming down about Jonathan Rhys Meyers recently! First off the star has signed on to help the Hope Foundation, started out of his native Cork, Ireland. The foundation helps street children in Calcutta, and Meyers sees his ability to throw his name and money behind it as a privilege. No word yet as to how much direct work he’ll be doing with the foundation or if it will be more about publicity, but either way it’s good to see him giving back and using his star powers for good!

Meyers, along with Showtime’s The Tudors, also won big last night at the Irish Film & Television Awards in Dublin. All told, they walked away with seven awards, the most any single film or television show has ever won. They won for costume design, hair and makeup, and best drama series. Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Maria Doyle Kennedy and Nick Dunning all won awards as well. Congrats to all!

I’m officially back, after a long four or five days of intense family stuff going on. Thanks so much to Eliza for filling in with some great “six degrees” style fun for us! I’m thinking we might have to ask her back more often, as I had no idea there were so many great connections to be made! Over the next few days I’ll be getting caught back up with all the Showtime-related gossip, getting my L Word review and picks up for you all, and so much more. For now here’s some of the goodness that’s been coming across the “google reader” wire!

  • Tudors-inspired fashion hit New York Fashion week big this year. I’ve seen several sources quote the time period as inspiration for their fall lines (the fashion industry shows their upcoming fall lines in the spring months and vice-versa, so that all the starlets can be properly informed of what to buy). It was all jewel tones, flowing dresses and skirts, etc. Tons of beadwork and pouty, Ann Bolyn inspired looks rounded it all off. I don’t have any links, unfortunately, but open any fashion magazine over the next few months and you’ll know what I’m talking about!
  • Dexter was a hit last night, as it aired the first episode of season one, edited for the general public. The most noticable difference? Deb’s language! Word has it Jennifer Carpenter had to spend hours in a taping studio to redo much of Deb’s potty mouth in order to make her character suitable for national television! Everyone’s talking about the show, though, which means good news for Showtime for sure!

As I get caught up, I’ll have a lot more info for you, including some L Word videos, and engagement announcement and how my L Word Fantasy Challenge gals did this week (and my picks for next week!)

Connecting The Tudors with Matthew McConaughey

Monday, February 18th, 2008

matthew_mcconaughey.jpg

(guest post by Eliza, from Watching Tom Cruise)

The blogosphere recently heard that Matthew McConaughey is going to be a daddy so what better time to link the “Tudors” to him. After all, in the first episode isn’t Elizabeth Blount pregnant with the King’s child?

Let’s begin, oh and for a fun game can you match Elizabeth Blount to Matthew McConaughey?

Natalie Dormer:

1. Natalie Dormer was in Distant Shores (2005) with Adam Pearson

2. Adam Pearson was in Unreal with Kimberly Fitch

3. Kimberly Fitch was in Law & Order (The Sixth Man) with Sam Waterston

4. Sam Waterston was in Le Divorce with Kate Hudson

5. Kate Hudson was in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days with Matthew McConaughey

Jonathon Rhys Meyers:

1. Jonathan Rhys Meyers was in Mission Impossible 3 with Tom Cruise

2. Tom Cruise was in War of Worlds with Dakota Fanning

3. Dakota Fanning was in Uptown Girls with Brittany Murphy

4. Brittany Murphy was in King of the Hill (voice Luanne) with Matthew McConaughey

Gabrielle Anwar:

1. Gabrielle Anwar was in Body Snatchers with Terry Kinney

2. Terri Kenney was in Sleepers with Kevin Bacon

3. Kevin Bacon was in Flatliners with Julia Roberts

4. Julia Roberts was in Oceans 12 with Brad Pitt

5. Brad Pitt was in Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford with Casey Affleck

6. Casey is little brother to Ben Affleck who was in Dazed and Confused with Matthew McConaughey

James Frain:

1. James Frain was in The count of monte carlo with James Caviezel

2. James Caviezel was in Pay it Forward with Haley Joel Osment

3. Haley Joel Osment was in Secondhand Lions with Kyra Sedgwick

4. Kyra Sedgwick was Losing Chase with Helen Mirren

5. Helen Mirren was in with Raising Helen with Kate Hudson

6. Kate Hudson was in Fool’s Gold with Matthew McConaughey

Six Degrees Of Kevin Bacon, Weeds Style

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

kevin-bacon-and-keira.jpg

(this is a guest post, thanks to Eliza of Tom Cruise Watch)

Isn’t it a wonder how one actor gets parts or knows celebrities and then how they are relate to one another. Lets take a look back into Kevin Bacon’s past and see how he ties himself to a few of the top Showtime Celebrities at the moment.

So let’s play the “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon”. For those that aren’t sure how the game is played, let’s look over at Tom Cruise. Tom Cruise was in “A Few Good Men” with Kevin Bacon, which would mean he’d have a Bacon number of one. However, Nicole Kidman played in “Eyes Wide Shut” with Tom Cruise and Tom Cruise played in “A Few Good Men” with Kevin, which would make her a Bacon 2.

Let the game begin!

Elizbeth Perkins
1. Elizabeth Perkins actually acted in “He Said, She Said,” back in 1991 with Kevin.

Mary Louise Parker

1. Mary Louise Parker played in “The Client” with Tommy Lee Jones.

2. Tommy Lee Jones played “U.S. Marshals” Robert Downey Jr.

3. Robert Downey Jr. played in “Heart and Souls” with Kyra Sedgwick

4. Kyra Sedgwick played in “Lemon Chase” with Kevin Bacon.

Hunter Parish

1. Hunter Parrish was in “Freedom Writers” with Hilary Swank or Patrick Dempsey

2. Hilary Swank was in “The Reaping” with AnnaSophia Robb

3. AnnaSophia Robb was in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” with Johnny Depp

4. Johnny Depp was in “Benny & Joon” with Oliver Platt

5. Oliver Platt was in “Flatliners” with Kevin Bacon.

That was just three of Weeds Characters that we can tie to Kevin Bacon. Can you try it? Here are a few more you may want to tie him with: Kevin Nealon, Justin Kirk, Alexander Gould, etc. I’d love to see your tries in the comments. As you may have noticed, it is easy to tie even the youngest actor/actresses with the older actors in Hollywood, you just have to keep on going back a bit.

Do you have an idea for a guest post? Just send me an e-mail with your ideas, as I’m always up for different voices!

The Sarah Bolger Connection

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

sarah-bolger-21108.jpg

This pint-sized actress is about to become a household name, and boy does she have a connection with Showtime. Starring alongside Mary Louise Parker in The Spiderwick Chronicles, this young star is also about to make her small-screen debut as a slightly older Mary, the daughter of King Henry on The Tudors. Talk about loving the network!

Sarah sat down with Movies Online recently to talk about her time on set for The Spiderwick Chronicles, and gave a rather poised and adult interview. Turns out this Irish gal took some time out to talk about her role as Mary on The Tudors, a character she describes as dark and extremely Catholic, having a hard time dealing with her constant pressure to conform for her mother while simultaneously being slowly ousted from her position as princess, thanks in no small part to the arival of Ann Bolyn. Now I’m even more excited to see the new season!

Laurel Holloman Talks To She Mag

Monday, February 11th, 2008

laurel-holloman-21108.jpg

In an interview that’s been reposted over at Media Blvd , Laurel Holloman sat down with She Mag and talked all things L Word. Among the topics of coversation was the never-ending Bette/Tina storyline that fans have been clamoring for since the couple split up. And now that it looks like they’re at least entertaining the idea of getting back together, Laurel’s comments on the pair are a hot commodity.

She also talked about motherhood, and how that’s affected her acting. From having her daughter with her in Canada (and taking her to preschool via ferryboat everyday!) to both she and Jennifer Beals’ motherhood changing the way they react with Olivia (the actress who plays Angie) on set, Laurel had a lot to say about the subject.

Laurel didn’t sidestep comments about her character’s interactions with Jenny, either. Now that they’re making a movie together, Tina’s had to deal with some new challenges, and Laurel opens up about that … and the suprising connections she’s got to her character’s role in the movie business.

I love that Laurel’s finally getting the press she’s deserved for years now, and can’t wait to see how this season wraps up for her character.

“Lights! Camera! Action!” - L Word recap

Monday, February 11th, 2008

lights-camera-action.jpg

Jenny’s running into some issues with her straight actresses when it comes to the sex aspect of their relationships. Apparently they don’t know how lesbians have sex, and Jenny’s not too upset at letting them in on all the “secrets”! So funny to watch them try to figure out how to do it, and how great that Jenny decides to get all the actresses a Lesbian Sex Coach to teach them how to do it!

We Have A Winner!

Friday, February 8th, 2008

Remember that comment contest that closed last Friday? Well, after taking several days to figure out how to give an ITunes gift certificate via e-mail (you’d think I’d be more tech-savy than that, but it bested me for almost a week!), I have sent the gift to our winner … Dee! This amazing lady has tons going on, so it was a pleasure to gift her with some music to help keep her mind off her growing belly! (of which i’m not at all jealous. really. ignore the greenish tint to my skin.)

Anyhow.

Sorry it took so long to update, but I wanted to be sure she got the gift cert. before I posted about it! We’ve still got the Fantasy Challenge contest going on, and it’s looking like SuzyQ might just be our reader-winner so far, so if you want to step up and challenge her, now is the time!
