almost human

with another episode of Dexter, I am once again blown away. After getting used to this lovably psychotic character and the lives surrounding him, I began to look beyond simple character arcs and saw the show for its many other facets.
First, the cinemetography of the show is amazing. angles, scene flow, and tons of technical words I don’t know that make this show unique. The coloring of each scene uniquely reflects the beauty of Miami (tons of pastels, typical pallette for a Miami-based movie or show), but because of the dark nature of the show there are also plenty of deep and rich colors. The overall effect is visually orgasmic!
There is also the intensely human quality of Dexter himself that has blown me away. He is shown with his girlfriend, a woman severely damaged due to spousal abuse, and her two children (who seem much less affected by their father’s abusive behavior), and you can almost see normalcy in him. He laughs and plays with the children and does not push Rita towards a more sexual relationship.
These moments do not last, though, and Dexter is sure to remind you that he feels lost when it comes to human emotion, and that he tends to fake his way through most encounters. None the less, I have gotten the feeling there is more humanity to Dexter than even he realizes.

I’m up to episode five now. And it’s interesting that Dexter is starting to feel more and more human emotion as time goes on. I love how he speaks to himself. Most of the time it’s hilarious.

I think I am going to have to start to watch Dexter. The show sounded like it would be a good one from the get go but I never really read reviews on the shows. Now that I have seen this I think it is time for me to catch up with it.
