“born free” - the Dexter season 1 finale

in an amazing finale, Dexter hunts down Rudy and his kidnapped sister while the entire force joins in on the hunt as they realize what they’re up against. as they start their canvasing and manhunts, the captain introduces the new lieutenant for the unit. another minority woman, she seems just as much a ball-buster as Maria has been. it seems the captain has brought her in specifically to keep Maria in check, a move that just might backfire on him.

as Dexter comes closer and closer to his past, he finds the storage locker his mother was killed in. in Rudy’s home, they discover his killing area, that his real name isn’t Rudy, and a clue for Dexter. as he returns to his childhood home, he discovers a shocking truth … Rudy is his brother. both were locked in that storage facility with their mother when she was killed. Rudy was deemed too old to be “saved” and put in a mental institution, while Dexter was thought to be young enough to be saved and went to live with his foster family. Rudy’s real name was Brian. a blood brother of Dexter’s, in both heredity and occupation.

Brian gives Dexter a choice; kill Deb with him and seal their brotherhood, or be killed himself. Brian attempts to bring Dexter into the “fullness” of his being (which means killing without the discrimination Dexter has thus far used). Thankfully for Deb, he cannot do it, and the Miami PD shows up in time to join the hunt for Brian, Dexter, and Deb. The sister/brother duo survives the night, and Brian escapes.

in an amazing season finale, Dexter sets a trap for Brian at his home. He then takes him back to the place where so many women were drained of blood and chopped to pieces and stages a suicide. with the ice truck killer officially out of the picture, it would seem Dexter’s world can go back to normal. but that’s not the case, obviously, or there won’t be a season two. stay tuned for teasers and trailers for the next season as i come across them.
