“Call Letter Blues 1:2-6″ - Brotherhood Season 2 Recap
Only the Caffee family can have a Thanksgiving like this one!
Where’s Rose going? She’s packing slutty undies and her pearls and heading out the door in a fancy dress, but doesn’t make it before Mary Kate shows up with a huge turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. Not one to be waylayed when she’s got plans, she walks out anyhow, leaving Mary Kate with a huge turkey. Panicked, Mary Kate runs over to Tom and Eileen’s house with the turkey, waking them up with her drama. Once he’s awake Tom heads over to the house to see what’s up. Just then Michael walks in with like ten pies so that Jimmy doesn’t eat them all. That’s when Jimmy shows up, already set to eat the pies. He sits down to watch the parade, blissfully unaware that anything is amiss.
Deco’s got Marty and Freddie Cork in a car, having taken them from jail so they could spend some time with their families. It’s not just because the Chief is nice, however. It’s so they can turn around the next day and start ratting out everyone they know to the feds.
Back with the Caffee family, they’re trying to divide up the duties now that Rose has bailed. Mary Kate gets stuck being in charge, which she’s not very happy about, so Eileen offers to help. Why the men aren’t helping I have no idea, but apparently that’s how they roll in this family. Just then Colin comes in with a huge box full of canned goods for them to use, and everyone’s super happy he had the foresight to go shopping. Until they find out he’s taken it from outside of a homeless shelter. Sometimes that kid is so dumb! Mary Kate realizes she’s forgotten the cranberry sauce, and Mary Rose is all too eager to help out by going to the store to get it. Turns out what she really wants to do is turn into a druggie like her mom, and lights up a joint when she’s out of eyesight from the house.
We finally get to see where Rose is going! She’s at a hotel in town, meeting up with some older gentleman. Mary Rose shows back up with only three cans of cranberry sauce because that’s all they had, and Eileen immediately notices there’s something up. Takes a druggie to notice one! Tom and his two younger girls are watching the parade with Jimmie, when Michael busts in holding an empty pie tin. Looks like Jimmie’s already eaten a whole pie! Sheesh. After berating Jimmie, he calls up Kath to see where she is. Sounds like she’s waiting for her ex to show up to pick up the kids before she heads over, but something tells me she’s going to back out.
Eileen pulls Tommy away from the parade-watching to tell him she knows Mary Rose is stoned. He seems calm enough about it, and because Eileen hasn’t said anything to her about it yet, he goes off to find her and talk about it. All his calm gets thrown out the window when he heads up to talk to Mary Rose, who totally willingly admits she’s stoned. When he grounds her until Christmas she says it’s unfair, and also says she doesn’t have anymore weed on her. I’m betting she actually does somewhere, and is just holding out so she can have some for her grounding.
With the two convicts happy with their wives, Deco leaves his partner with them to cook the meal and leaves to visit his dad. Freddie’s upstairs with his wife, and finding out his family is pretty much falling apart now that he’s in prison. His boy is getting in fights at school, and his girl is wetting the bed again. While that’s going on Marty’s talking to his girlfriend about how she’s going to be taken care of when he dies. She’s not comfortable with him leaving her, but there’s not a whole lot that can be done, as he’s got cancer and is dying!
At the Caffee house, Mary Kate is so freaked out about the turkey not cooking properly that she’s sitting directly in front of it, staring at the oven in a panic. Colin’s the only one left helping her, but then Michael comes in telling him he’s got a “real” job for him to do. He takes over the mashing of potatoes and sends Colin on his way to do some dirty job for him. When Mary Kate tells him Mary Rose was caught stoned, he bails on her mashed potatoes to go chew out Tommy’s daughter. But Tommy stops him, reminding him that no matter how much good work he does, he’s still the uncle that sells drugs.
Back at the hotel, Rose is having Thanksgiving dinner with some guy named Walter. And before they’re even done eating she’s busting out handcuffs and a dildo! Sheesh Rose, she’s really feeling her sexuality. Looks like Walter’s not feeling it, though, which upsets her greatly. She sits back down and that’s when he tells her he’s really not there for sex, he’s just there for the company. She just wanted a quick romp in the hay, to forget that she’s not getting older, but that’s not the way it’s going to work out, and she’s really upset.
Mary Kate is still stuck by herself cooking the entire dinner, and she’s trying to make sure the turkey’s done. While taking it out of the oven, the thing is so big it tips over in the pan and falls onto the kitchen floor, juices splatterng everywhere. And what does she do? Exactly what I would do, which is try to pick it up off the floor, but that doesn’t work. She storms over to Tom’s house where the rest of the family is just sitting there watching football like assholes, so she threatens her husband a divorce if he doesn’t help her cook! And he actually wavers a bit before finally heading over. After Eileen feels guilty enough that she heads over to help Mary Kate, too, Tommy tries to get Michael to have a drink with him, but he refuses. When Tommy explodes on him, Michael reminds him that he’s not having a drink not to spite Tommy, but because it’s not good for him to drink, and then leaves in a huff.
Mary Kate loses it when she finds out Michael has left, and literally goes off in a rage about how they ruin Thanksgiving every year. And that’s when they all start to realize they’re actually having a good time! Mary Kate leaves the men to finish cooking dinner and goes off to watch the football game. Meanwhile Michael’s heading off to pick up Kath and take her over to the Caffees. When she won’t go with him he gets all pissed, and calls her kids “whiny fucking brats”. That’s when she hits him over the head in anger, and they finally figure out they’re both really upset over the abortion. Duh.
Colin’s off running whatever errand Michael sent him to do, and he’s pissed about it so he’s taking it out on the waitress. Nice dick move there Colin. Just because they don’t have pumpkin pie doesn’t mean you can treat someone like that.
Freddie and Marty are watching their women drive off, and then they start playing Go Fish while drinking a few beers with Ralphie. Except they’ve run out of beer, so he says he’s going to go get some more beer as long as they promise to be there when he gets back.
Eileen’s ordered pizza!! Apparently the Caffee family Thanksgiving isnt going over as well as everyone had hoped, and the families have all sectioned off into their own little factions. Tommy’s pissed, however, because the dinner is almost done, and so Eileen starts to help him cook. And while they’re standing there in the kitchen, Eileen tells Tommy she wants to fight for her family. Really fight for it. And she wants to know if Tommy wants to join the fight. When he agrees to fight with her for their family, she tells him the pizza’s overcooked and that she’s going to eat pizza with the girls.
Holy shit, we’ve figured out why Colin’s out on an errand for Michael. While Ralphie’s off getting beer, you see him there! Turns out he’s in on the plan to kill Freddie and Marty with Colin and Michael, so when he gets back to the house he goes upstairs to “take a dump” while Colin busts in to kill them. Too bad Freddie gets away!!! And then he clips off his ankle monitor and keeps on running. Nice. Here’s hoping he didn’t see it was Colin. And that’s when Deco pulls back up. And he knows that this is retaliation from Mike for Freddie trying to have him killed.
When Colin shows back up to the house, he’s upset to learn Thanksgiving isn’t going to happen. Everyone’s in their separate houses and no one’s willing to help him “save Thanksgiving”. So Colin borrows a joint from Mary Rose and goes to a fast food joint to eat dinner by himself. It’s sort of sad really that he was the only one who really wanted the family to be together, and he was the only one who wasn’t given the chance to make it work.
