Dexter

It’s Official!

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

Not that anyone who reads this blog had any doubt, but it would seem Showtime is quickly surpassing HBO as the edgy network to watch. First the L Word premiere garnered a nod from the likes of Paris Hilton (although I’m still convinced she was just there because that girl lives to party, and there was a party available to her), then these two amazing moments.

Dex and Deb A Couple?!

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

deb-and-ex.jpg

Page Six is reporting Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter may be dating! On-screen the pair play Dexter and Deborah Morgan, so they spend tons of time together. And Hall filed for divorce from his wife just under a year ago, so it’s nice to see him back to dating. But his sister?!? I know it shouldn’t creep me out, but it sort of does. Just a little bit.

This isn’t the first time Showtime actors have taken an on-screen pairing and turned it into an off-screen romance. Weeds co-stars Mary Louise Parker and her on-screen deceased husband Jeffery Dean Morgan were paired up for some time, although they’ve since gone their separate ways.

“The British Invasion” - Dexter Goes Out With A Bang!

Monday, December 17th, 2007

the-british-invasion.jpg

Last night was the season finale of the second season of Dexter, and rather than take notes while watching (which requires a fair amount of pausing) I decided to just watch it through and blog it later. A wise decision I think, as so much happened it would have probably ruined the flow of the show for me if I’d tried to blog and watch simultaneously. That said, here’s a recap of the show, bullet-point style, with some of my favorite and some of the most shocking moments highlighted. (total spoilers ahead, so if you didn’t watch it yet, DO NOT CLICK AHEAD.)

Dexter Up For WGA Awards

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

dexterseasonone.jpg

Despite the Writer’s Strike, still unsolved after writers walked out and took to the streets on Nov. 5, their annual awards ceremony will take place. And up for several? Showtime’s own Dexter! They’re being nominated for Best Drama and Best New Series. It was also “given a nod” for episodic drama for a single writer. Whatever that means.

So now that Dexter’s writers have been nominated, I’ll be excited to see pictures of the event start to filter back through the internet. And with Dexter coming back for a third season, that means even better storylines to come. If the writers are ever given what they deserve by the studios, that is.

Showtime Takes Home Three of “The Underrated” Ten Awards!

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

dexterseasonone.jpg

Not that we all here at Watching Showtime aren’t already believers in the power of a good Showtime television show. But … if we needed any further proof that the rest of the world is starting to sit up and take notice of what’s happening here on our little channel, the annual “Top Ten” List from The Underrated should give you some indication. Of his top ten television shows of the year, three were from Showtime. Three.

Here’s the full list for those of you who are interested, along with what was said about the three Showtime shows listed.

CBS To Run Showtime Programming?

Friday, December 7th, 2007

showtime_logo.gif

Could this be true? With the writer’s strike dragging on and on, it looks like non-cable channels are looking to their paid-programming counterparts for help with filling all the empty spaces. And in the case of CBS, that would mean Showtime.

Dexter is probably the first one to go on — with some edits,” CEO Leslie Moonves told reporters on Tuesday, with both The Tudors and Weeds to follow, but that “both will need heavy editing to make it to broadcast primetime.”

It didn’t take long for “family oriented groups” to freak out, however, calling the shows words like vulgar, obscene and graphic. These groups say the shows should stay on paid programming where they belong.

I’m betting they’ll change their tunes when there’s no new shows on tv for another six months. Besides, who ever heard of parenting your children, making sure they knew that what was on tv wasn’t real? Or, and I know this is totally unheard of, why not just NOT LET THEM WATCH THE SHOWS?

But that’s just silly old me talking here.

After Ellen Discusses Lauren Velez

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

bio-laguerta.jpg

Known for her tough attitude and love for Doakes on Showtime’s Dexter, Lauren Velez has had a long career playing women known for their combination of attitude and beauty. And now After Ellen has taken the time to give us a little more insight into Velez’ upbringing and acting history.

Personally, I love LaGuerta, but have this fear she’s going to lose it by the end of this season. With James being accused of being the Bay Harbor Butcher and knowing Dexter’s the true killer, he’s bound to end up dead, which could break LaGuerta. Her not-so-secret love for Doakes has fueled many a hilarious moment on the show.

“There’s Something About Harry” - Dexter Recap

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

130357.jpg

Now that Dexter’s got Doakes in “custody” and Dexter still hasn’t gotten rid of Lila while attempting to rekindle things with Rita, it looks like these last couple of episodes will be full of suprises! I had hoped he wouldn’t have to kill Doakes, but now I’m not so sure.

Spotlight On: Lila/Jaime Murray

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

jaime-murray-1.jpg

Lila is the turbo-charged sexy sponsor of Dexter on Showtime, and has become a fan favorite over a matter of weeks with her scheming and seduction. Singlehandedly sexing up the serial killer’s world, Lila has been a breath of fresh air, a force to be reckoned with, and now a thorn in Dexter’s side. Played by Jaime Murray, Lila is definitely the character fans love to hate.

Dexter Is Breaking Records!

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

season-two-ep-3.jpg

Dexter is giving people all across the US reasons to not miss the shows that have gone on hiatus since the writers strike.

(Side note - Showtime shows are safe for a number of months still, as they film many months in advance. So no worries on Dexter, The L Word, and many others, airing on time.)

Attracting over one million viewers several weeks in a row, this last episode broke the record for being the single most watched show in the network’s history! Congrats to Dexter and the network as a whole for this huge milestone!

“That Night A Forest Grew” - Dexter Season Two Recap

Monday, November 12th, 2007

130354.jpg

Now that Dexter’s with Lila, it looks like his recovery should be moving along just fine. Rita’s having issues with her mother, but it’s nothing she can’t handle, and while Deb and Agent Lundy are exploring their feelings for one another the rest of the department is sent into a tailspin thanks to a letter sent to the newspaper courtesy of the Bay Harbor Butcher. With several twists and turns, this episode leaves you reeling, with a fire and the potential for another character’s demons surfacing even larger than Dexters!

“Dex, Lies, and Videotape” - Dexter recap

Monday, November 5th, 2007

dexter-recap.jpg

While re-listening to some of the tape of his mother and Harry, he discovers a little bit of the tape that was mumbled, and keeps playing it back to try to hear it. Poor Dexter has to deal with the new knowledge that his biological mother and his adopted father were having an affair; just one more lie added to the pantheon of lies Harry told Dexter. Where does he go to talk through his issues? Not Rita’s like he should. Instead he goes to Lila’s house, and she tells him that no matter why Harry did what he did, Dexter has an addiction to deal with. At least Dexter is finally admitting he built everything, from his job to his girlfriend, around Harry’s rules. Lila tells him he’s lucky to be questioning this now, because he gets to have a fresh start.
