Michael’s having another seizure sitting at the table at Cathy’s house, and he comes to not knowing what’s happened. After Cathy and her daughter leave to go to a birthday party he heads off to see how Pete’s doing. Turns out he’s doing well refurbishing cars for a guy who used to owe Michael money. The debt’s been wiped clean and Michael is apparently paying his salary so the guy doesn’t end up short any money.

The Caffey Family is back for more drama, underhanded dealings and basic family life the Irish way. With the cat out of the bag for Eileen, she’s feeling like she can finally move on while Tommy’s just getting used to the new picture he has of his wife. Michael’s got some lasting damage from the beat-down he received and once again The Hill is moving on without him. Now that the neighborhood has been brought together by tragedy, people are starting to see the need to do a mass cleanup. Organizing begins on neighborhood watches and the like, all while the Caffey Boys have some family cleanup of their own to take care of. While all this is going on both Pete and Eileen are struggling with sobriety, both unwilling to admit the lives they lead will never be conducive to a healthy change like that. When the local movie theater needs help, the brothers join forces for the first time in years (possibly ever) to try to save it. Eileen’s dealing with some serious depression and Rose still doesn’t have a job, but the family still manages to pull together and help each other out. At least for a little bit.

Nothing stays fine for long on The Hill, and between softball games, bar-buying, garbage issues (forever and ever it seems) and the whole of the Caffee family finding themselves in job flux, this episode shows the downward slope of the family in a whole new light.

A raid on Rose’s house has the whole family at each other’s throats as the attention threatens to undo everything they’ve all been working towards. In the end they all seem to work it out, although their peace is a surface bandaid, with the wounds below begging to be let out, and I can’t wait for the blowout that happens when they do!

Never a day without problems for Tommy, there’s a garbage strike all over The Hill, and people are reacting in various ways. Some are hiding their trash in their garages, others are just leaving it out on the curb, while the union workers are dumping trash on what looks like the lawn of the mayor in order to get their point heard. He heads to where the union is protesting after meeting with more investors at the abandoned warehouse. He meets with the mayor and tries to strike a deal with him to get the workers back in their trucks and the garbage picked up, but the mayor’s asking for much more than Tommy thinks he can get the unions to agree to. To make matters worse, people are taking matters into their own hands when non-union workers try to go door to door and collect people’s trash for a few extra bucks. Tommy and Eileen head off to the Fitzgerald’s house for dinner, and they also get to meet several congressmen and government leaders.

This second episode of Brotherhood takes its viewer deeper into the lives and dealings of the Caffee brothers, their families and the rest of The Hill. From shady dealings by Tommy to hostile takeovers by Michael, no Brotherhood episode would be complete (I’m fast to learn) without a twist at the end to keep you guessing.

Since I hadn’t seen the first season of Brotherhood, I’m here to recap it episode by episode before I start in on season two. Which may seem like a huge waste of time, but based on what I’ve seen so far, there will need to be some catchup played before all the new fans can get what’s happening.
