“The Whore of Babylon” Californication review

californication

You have to love the audacity of Hank. From moment one you see him fighting desperately to ruin his life. Before the credits even roll, he’s picking a fight with the screenwriter who “butchered? his best-seller, and admitting to having slept with his wife. In every room of their house. All while he’s at a reading in a bookstore. And to add insult to injury, Bill’s the one that shows up to pick him up from the police station, and with Becca in the car.

And that’s just the first five minutes of the episode!

Weeds Breaks Records

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

An article in Variety shares some amazing news … Weeds broke records for a Showtime premiere!! With over 800,000 viewers, the tremendous showing also boosted ratings for Californication, helping out a show I’m still on the fence about. I’ll leave you with a link to the full article, and promises that I’ll be a much better blogger next week … life just got the best of me this week is all.

Californicaton “Pilot” review(ish)

pilot

I’m just not sure how I feel about Californication. I want to like it. I went into the episode sure I’d love it. And then … and then I don’t know what happened, because by the time the episode was done, I just wasn’t sure anymore.

I love how David Duchovny plays Hank Moody with such dry sarcasm and dead-pan humor. The daughter is genius. I love every single casting choice, to be honest. So that can’t be the problem.

Meadowlands ends, Weeds/Californication reign begins

californication

Tonite is the season finale of Meadowlands, and while I’ll be sad to see it retire for the time being, I cannot help but do a little butt dance in my chair for the two shows that will start their run next Monday night. With stars like Mary Louise Parker and David Duchovny coming to my tv screen every Monday night, I think the swoon factor will be pretty great in my household. And in celebration, the rest of the week (after, of course, my Meadowlands recap tonite) will be dedicated to all things Weeds and Californication, starting with the last of the recaps of season two episodes.

What about you? Which show are you looking forward to? Which star are you excited to see grace the screen? And don’t forget, your comments here could be worth as much as $300 this month, thanks to 451 Press!

meadowlands

In leiu of a ton of content for any one thing, I’m going to give you a bunch of smaller content items in bullet-point style. Sorry for those that don’t like it!

  • You can watch a preview of Californication now on Showtime’s site. I’m still thinking this show will either explode or be the worst thing ever. How about you?
  • Dexter is still in reruns until September, and it looks like after they re-play season one’s finale, they’re just going to start over again with the first season. This is a great opportunity for those six of you who have missed an episode to catch up!
  • Have you checked out Our Chart yet? It’s got great blogs, videos to watch, profiles of women all over the world to friend, and my favorite, the L Word Insider, which features great videos and never-before seen footage.
  • A new Meadowlands episode is on Sunday. Are you signed up yet to receive the weekly text messages? Are you as in love with the show as I am? Which character has already become your favorite, as Mark has for me.
  • Today is the last day to enter in the comment contest for the first season of the Tudors on DVD. Head on over to this post to give me your comment and enter your name in the drawing. I’ll be announcing the winner on Monday!
