L Word To Receive GLAAD Honors

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

Just as The L Word has taken it’s final bow, it will be nominated by GLAAD with a Special Recognition Award.

The Los Angeles ceremony, which is set to take place on April 18, 2009 in the Nokia Theater in LA, will honor many people, including Kathy Griffin and Bishop Gene Robinson.

The Special Recognition Award will be given to The L Word because the show “broke new ground for LGBT visibility on television with its focus of exploring the lives and loves of a group of lesbian and bisexual women in Los Angeles”.

With a cast full of out lesbian and bisexual women, the show is now aired in 39 countries, bringing worldwide recognition to the GLBT community. Ilene Chakin, along with cast members Jennifer Beals, Leisha Hailey, Kate Moennig, and Pam Greer will accept the award that evening.

Jennifer Beals Keeps Active After The L Word

Monday, March 9th, 2009

beals

While she wasn’t at the L Word final episode party a few nights ago, Jennifer Beals is keeping extremely busy – and hopefully keeping her fans happy!

First up, she’s participating in an upcoming triathlon, which helps explain her amazing body. I’m not sure which triathlon she’s in, however, so I’ll post details on that as they surface. At the very least, I’m sure we’ll have some gorgeous pictures.

Soon afterwards, she’s going to be attending the 20th Annual GLAAD Media Awards on April 18th. This event will come complete with hundreds of pictures, and hopefully at least a few of these will be of Jennifer. With her esteemed standing in the GLBT community, she’s sure to turn out in a gorgeous outfit to the screams of her fans!

Jennifer Beals Covers Michigan Avenue

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

michigan-avenue

Chicago native Jennifer Beals will grace Michigan Avenue’s February Love Issue cover. Chicagopride.com has exclusive coverage of the interview, including how her views on the GLBT community have changed since playing a lesbian on The L Word, and her thoughts on forever being associated with Flashdance.

Her thoughts on Prop. 8: “Someday people will look back and say, “I can’t believe there was a time all people couldn’t get married.”

On filming the love scenes: “and then I realized, In two days I’m shooting a love scene and I don’t have a friggin’ clue what I’m doing. I’m going to be outed as such a hetero chump! And then I thought, I just have to relax.”

Beals will be in Chicago on February 9 to host the issue release party at The Peninsula Hotel.

Jennifer Beals Signs On To A New Movie

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

beals

Jennifer Beals (pictured here at the Huffington Post Inauguration Ball) has moved on from The L Word with lightning speed, signing on to a role in the movie The Book of Eli, which is a “futuristic action thriller with religious overtones”.

The movie will also star Denzel Washington,  Gary Oldman and Mila Kunis. The movie centers around Washington’s character, who fights his way across America trying to protect a sacred book. Jennifer Beals joins the cast as a blind woman who will protect her daughter (played by Kunis) at all costs.

The movie is set to debut in 2010 (according to IMDB), so who knows how much of this will still stand by the time the movie comes out. I”m wondering how much of the movie will feature Beals - it would be a crime not to give her a prominent place, despite the fact that IMDB doesn’t yet show her attached to the film.

Jennifer Beals Rocked The Inauguration

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

She kept saying she was going to go to the Inauguration, and while there’s no photos of her day-of surfacing yet, I’ve got a few great shots of Jennifer Beals at the Huffington Post pre-inaugural ball on January 19 at the Newseum.

What Surprised Jennifer Beals About The Final L Word Season?

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Surprisingly, it wasn’t that they killed off Jenny, or that she and Tina are attempting to make yet another go of their relationship. And it wasn’t the casting of real life friend Elizabeth Berkley as Kelly, an old friend of Bette’s and potential issue in her and Tina’s relationship.

No, not much actually surprised Jennifer Beals, according to her sit-down with the NY Post. She didn’t realize they were going to give a flashback, but trusts Ilene Chakin. She’s excited the show has been name-dropped everywhere from “Gilmore Girls” to “The Sopranos”, and she’s ready for the next chapter in her life.

In all, I had hoped for more excitement and nostalgia from Beals in this latest interview. And while it will be incredibly exciting to see her play off real-life friend Berkley, I’m most excited that Beals admits to the far reach the show has had on viewers.

Showtime Nods Around the Internet

Monday, January 19th, 2009

After Ellen staff writer Trish Bendix sat down with L Word stylist Cynthia Summers to chat about our favorite lesbians on television, how the fashion in the show as evolved over time, who she loved dressing the most, and so much more. source

At the Winter TCAs, Showtime’s President of Entertainment Robert Greenblatt talked with IGN.com about the future for both Weeds and Dexter. Both shows have been renewed through their 6th and 5th seasons respectively, which is good news for fans. Greenblatt wouldn’t give away any plot points, though, instead joking of the next season of Dexter, “Someone’s going to die!” source

Just when we all thought casting Leisha Hailey as the star of the L Word spin-off was a dead giveaway as to her guilt in the murder of Jenny Scheckter, think again. Both Hailey and Ilene Chakin, creator of the spin-off, have hinted at Alice’s possible innocence! source

Jonathan Rhys Meyers has a new modeling gig – this time for Energie Jeans. He will be their face for the brand for the next two seasons, so expect to see him strutting around in them often, as well as many gorgeous print ads showing up in magazines and billboards across the planet! source
