L Word To Receive GLAAD Honors

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

fin-l-word

Just as The L Word has taken it’s final bow, it will be nominated by GLAAD with a Special Recognition Award.

The Los Angeles ceremony, which is set to take place on April 18, 2009 in the Nokia Theater in LA, will honor many people, including Kathy Griffin and Bishop Gene Robinson.

The Special Recognition Award will be given to The L Word because the show “broke new ground for LGBT visibility on television with its focus of exploring the lives and loves of a group of lesbian and bisexual women in Los Angeles”.

With a cast full of out lesbian and bisexual women, the show is now aired in 39 countries, bringing worldwide recognition to the GLBT community. Ilene Chakin, along with cast members Jennifer Beals, Leisha Hailey, Kate Moennig, and Pam Greer will accept the award that evening.

Clementine Ford To Continue On Small Screen

Monday, March 16th, 2009

clementine-ford-small-screen

Clementine Ford is going to continue to star on the small screen now that her turn on The L Word is over. She’s moving to daytime soaps this time, premiering the role of Mac on The Young and The Restless. Mac is the granddaughter of Katherine, and to be honest that’s about all I can find on it.

It doesn’t look like there’s much info about her character up on CBS’ space for the show, and her photo/bio isn’t up yet in the cast section, so I can’t even tell you when she’ll begin her role. But the recently outed starlet will be sure to shine in the role, and the soap may find a whole new audience with her addition to the cast.

Jennifer Beals Keeps Active After The L Word

Monday, March 9th, 2009

beals

While she wasn’t at the L Word final episode party a few nights ago, Jennifer Beals is keeping extremely busy – and hopefully keeping her fans happy!

First up, she’s participating in an upcoming triathlon, which helps explain her amazing body. I’m not sure which triathlon she’s in, however, so I’ll post details on that as they surface. At the very least, I’m sure we’ll have some gorgeous pictures.

Soon afterwards, she’s going to be attending the 20th Annual GLAAD Media Awards on April 18th. This event will come complete with hundreds of pictures, and hopefully at least a few of these will be of Jennifer. With her esteemed standing in the GLBT community, she’s sure to turn out in a gorgeous outfit to the screams of her fans!

Saying Goodbye To The L Word

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Are we all doing okay? All the tears done, the anger with Jenny dissipated, the curiosity peaked for the potential new spin-off?

I’ll be heading back to the L Word in the next few weeks, writing a few season recaps and some thoughts on the show as a whole, but wanted to take a minute to showcase some photos from the L Word Red Carpet Farewell Event. The ladies all showed up to send off their beloved show in style, and photographers gladly snapped pictures of our favorite lesbians together for the last time.

Mama Chakin took sometime out to pose with all her lovely ladies, and I’m sure in the coming weeks we’ll be hearing a lot more from her as she waxes lovingly about her first foray into lesbian television and gets us all excited for Leisha Hailey’s The Farm.

For now, enjoy the photos!

Kate Moennig On Shane And Carmen

Monday, February 16th, 2009

shane-love

With just a few short weeks before the final end to everyone’s favorite lesbian drama, The L Word, all sorts of great quotes are coming out. And now that we know Ilene’s taking Shane down with the ship, setting her up with crazy Jenny, many fans of the show have been pining after the good old days of Shane/Carmen love.

And while we won’t get any more days of Shane and Carmen, we will get a cameo appearance by Shane’s first love in the final episode. And we’ll always have past seasons to watch on DVD to keep us happy.

Wouldn’t you know it, we’re not the only ones talking about Shane and Carmen. Kate Moennig gave up a juicy quote herself, having this to say: “I think everyone believes that Shane is meant to be with Carmen. I always look at the Carmen situation as that one first love that got away. You’ll never find something that will match that level of intensity. I think the Molly thing was fun and cute, I don’t know how profound it was.”

Aw! Even Kate knows Carmen was Shane’s first love!

Clementine Ford Outs Herself In Diva!

Monday, February 9th, 2009

clem-diva

While rumors of her sexuality have swirled since her 2004 divorce from Chad Todhunter, Clementine Ford has done nothing about it. That is, until this latest issue of Diva, in which she decides to “out” herself!

She told the magazine: “I never want to put a label on myself — but knowing that not everyone comes from such a liberal place, when something like Prop 8 comes out, you realize it’s important to stand up and be counted. A little gay kid in a small town is more important than whether I want a label.”

According to Ford, sexuality was never a big issue growing up, with not just she but other siblings bringing home dates of both sexes. It wasn’t until she began to realize that life isn’t always so easy for queer kids that she decided to come out.

Her work with the Point Foundation led her into the queer spotlight, and rumors swirled around her performance with Kate Moennig – many believe the pair dated off-screen as well as being the steamiest part of last season on The L Word. Ford didn’t give Diva the dirt on that, simply stating the pair are now friends.

She is, however, dating someone, and the implication is that it’s a woman, although she doesn’t name names this time either. Good for her for keeping her sex life private while still being public about who she is! Next time, she just needs a better stylist for that cover shoot!

No word on IMDB as to what’s next for Ford, but here’s hoping we get to see her one last time before The L Word calls it quits!

Up Next On The L Word - LMFAO

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

I’ve avoided episode recaps thus far for this show, mostly because I just cannot believe what’s happening. I want to crawl into my television, shake the characters, and then go hunt down Ilene Chakin and slap her.

A few days ago I went back and watched a few episodes from previous seasons, and I have to say it made me even more disappointed in where this season is going. Can we count the craziness?

One. Shane is not heartless, does not get away with things (as Jenny would say). And so to put her in a position where she’s with Jenny? It seems more ridiculous than I can begin to imagine. At least it looks like the other characters will see that as well.

Two. Max is pregnant? For the record, the doctor of someone transitioning would definitely tell you that this can happen, so there’s no way he and Tom wouldn’t have known to use protection. Way to play on the sensationalist side of the REAL pregnant man, Chakin.

Three. Does anyone buy that Elizabeth Berkley is going to come between Bette and Tina? Because I sure don’t. Much too contrived, as is the continuing feud between Bette and Jodi.

Four. Dylan is back. Oh, and Kit was hitting on a drag queen? Come on.

Five. Alice has become just as selfish and crazy as Jenny. I know she always was a bit much, but this is just insanity.

Have I left anything out? The only peace I have is that Sarah Shahai will be making an appearance in the last episode. That’s right folks, Carmen De La Pica Morales will show her beautiful self – it’s not going to be a major thing, apparently, but she will be back. Is it wrong that this may be the only reason I’m still watching?

Anyhow. Here’s the preview videos from next week’s episode. Jenny steals the negatives. Another person says “you’re dead Jenny Schecter”. People find out about Jenny and Shane, who has turned into some sort of groveling weenie in the face of Jenny. Kit and Helena open their club (which I thought was already open, but whatever), and Jenny tells Alice she can’t be a screenwriter. Drama, drama, drama.

Stolen negative

Kate Moennig Out On The Town

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

First, she was spotted out shopping, and then she was spotted slouching her way through eastside Hollywood club Boobietrap. Apparently people tried to pretend they didn’t notice they were in the presence of greatness and pretty much left her to her own devices, while Moennig looked very Shane with her sheared hair, tight pants and general bad-ass movements.

While the L Word has officially wrapped shooting for the last time, Moennig resides in LA and so she should be spotted out more and more often now that her slate seems somewhat clear of projects. Currently she’s got a movie in post-production with one in production.

Everybody’s Fine (post-production), she’s featured in an ensemble cast that follows a “widower who realized his only connection to his family was through his wife”. The man “sets off on an impromptu road trip to reunite with each of his grown children.”

Currently in production is Remorse, a psychological thriller set to release at some point in 2009. currently, IMDB doesn’t have much information on the movie, and only five actors are listed, one of which is Moennig.

Cybil Shepherd Credits L Word With Career Revival

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

cybil4

As the sixth season of the L Word comes to a close, cast members are coming forward to discuss their time on the show. And Cybil Shepherd is no exception. In an interview with the National Ledger, she had a lot to say about the show, including a character surprise!

Of the show’s impact on her career: “It was really such a fulfilling, fabulous thing to have been on the show. It really has given me another comeback in my career. It’s challenged me and brought me an incredible new fan base. Everywhere I go people come up to me and thank me for being on ‘The L Word.’ I have women say, ‘You know my husband watches ‘The L Word’ now because you’re on it.’ Or I’ll have women say, ‘Oh, I love you on ‘The L Word,’ but I’m not a lesbian.”

On what the show accomplished: “I was just on the last two years, but it’s been on for six seasons, so everybody is kind of worn out. But we feel like we’ve accomplished so much. It was a really historical show — so important. Hopefully it’s the beginning of many more wonderful shows that feature women and all our glory.”

Her involvement with the show began with it’s inception: “I had a meeting when it was originally created because I wanted to be in the pilot, but they went in a different direction with Pam Grier.”

Showtime Nods Around the Internet

Monday, January 19th, 2009

After Ellen staff writer Trish Bendix sat down with L Word stylist Cynthia Summers to chat about our favorite lesbians on television, how the fashion in the show as evolved over time, who she loved dressing the most, and so much more. source

At the Winter TCAs, Showtime’s President of Entertainment Robert Greenblatt talked with IGN.com about the future for both Weeds and Dexter. Both shows have been renewed through their 6th and 5th seasons respectively, which is good news for fans. Greenblatt wouldn’t give away any plot points, though, instead joking of the next season of Dexter, “Someone’s going to die!” source

Just when we all thought casting Leisha Hailey as the star of the L Word spin-off was a dead giveaway as to her guilt in the murder of Jenny Scheckter, think again. Both Hailey and Ilene Chakin, creator of the spin-off, have hinted at Alice’s possible innocence! source

Jonathan Rhys Meyers has a new modeling gig – this time for Energie Jeans. He will be their face for the brand for the next two seasons, so expect to see him strutting around in them often, as well as many gorgeous print ads showing up in magazines and billboards across the planet! source
