Meadowlands goes out with a BANG!

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

meadowlands

And with that last tremendous episode, Meadowlands has left me clamoring for more, desperately hopeful that the show will return for another season. I will admit I’ve been a nay-sayer off and on, with some episodes leaving me breathless and others leaving me unsatisfied. But this episode takes the cake!

Meadowlands ends, Weeds/Californication reign begins

californication

Tonite is the season finale of Meadowlands, and while I’ll be sad to see it retire for the time being, I cannot help but do a little butt dance in my chair for the two shows that will start their run next Monday night. With stars like Mary Louise Parker and David Duchovny coming to my tv screen every Monday night, I think the swoon factor will be pretty great in my household. And in celebration, the rest of the week (after, of course, my Meadowlands recap tonite) will be dedicated to all things Weeds and Californication, starting with the last of the recaps of season two episodes.

What about you? Which show are you looking forward to? Which star are you excited to see grace the screen? And don’t forget, your comments here could be worth as much as $300 this month, thanks to 451 Press!

Meadowlands finale Sunday

meadowlands

The season finale of Meadowlands airs this Friday and Showtime is already offering up a few spoilers. It would appear Danny finds out the truth about his relationship to his children, we find out the true location of Meadowlands, and Danny gets some help from an unlikely source.

I’m pretty excited for this episode to air. While I wavered in my love of Meadowlands, it has offered up enough suspense and action to keep me interested for two full months, as well as introduced America to some amazing new acting talent. Here’s hoping it gets picked up for a second season, so we can all see what new adventures the Brogans will encounter.

Meadowlands episode seven recap

Monday, July 30th, 2007

meadowlands 1.7

With Danny desperate to escape the hell that is Meadowlands, the seventh episode is full of running and hiding and yelling and a few dramatic twists. All the stuff of a great Showtime drama, that’s for sure. In a sudden and rash move, Danny decides to have the bar ready to open in just two days’ time; this is a feat almost impossible to pull off, and it has Evelyn worried about Danny as he begins to spend all of his time in a mad dash to have everything ready. To occupy herself, she confronts Dr. York about his unmitigated and unexplained accusations the other day.

Meadowlands episode six recap - second try!

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

I’m back to try to recap this amazing episode one more time. With so much happening to the residents of Meadowlands this week, it’s hard to keep it all straight even just two days out, but i’ll certainly try to do just that for you. We watched Danny’s mental health deteriorate just a little bit farther, learned that Samantha’s upbringing might just be a lie, and saw Brenda try to end her affair with Mark.

It’s good to know, first off, that Danny Brogan is not truly losing it’s mind, but that instead Freddie has been instructed to mess with it. Finally being told that Freddie is not truly one of them, it does not ease Danny’s mind in any way to know that he has been the recipient of failed mental training in an attempt to help him transition to Meadowlands faster.

The woman behind this mental reprogramming? Samantha - Danny’s handler. Samantha has her own issues to deal with this episode as well, however. A phone call and a last-minute meeting with her father reveals much damage to her childhood. Samantha’s father is a professor, the man responsible for the ideas Meadowlands (and all the other communities that build up Cape Wrath) has been built on. In what turns out to be her last meeting with her father, she discovers that she is really Una, the little girl her father rescued from an abusive home many years ago. Una, who had no previous contact with humans (she’d been kept in a box until she was four), became an experiment to see if you could re-condition people’s minds. She is the proof that Meadowlands can work.

Samantha comes back from visiting with her dying father (he commits suicide after telling her he is dying), must then deal with Freddie having instituted the mental reprogramming gone wrong on Danny. Not that I think he’s fully recovered, but Danny at least knows the truth about Meadowlands and the people running it.

The Brogan family has plenty of other issues to deal with in this episode as well. Mark’s affair with Brenda continues to heat up the bedroom, although Brenda attempts to end the affair once again. Will it ever work? I doubt it, as Mark is rather persistent and enjoying his new-found passtime.

Evelyn’s got issues of her own, with Dr. York continuing to profess his love for her despite her repeated claims to not feel the same. When his wife Abigail goes shopping with Evelyn, she takes a dress back home and begins to play dress-up. Obviously knowing what her husband is feeling, she tells him to call her Evelyn while they make love, reassuring him by claiming it was Evelyn’s idea. After the steamy role-playing affair, he hunts down Evelyn to tell her just how disgusting she truly is. Trouble with that is that she has no idea what he’s talking about. I smell trouble and more drama in the next episode!

If I’ve forgotten anything I apologize, but stick around for the final three episodes!

Case Study: Tom Tyrell

Tom Tyrell

One of the great features to the Meadowlands website is their “character files”. They read like a personal dossier of each member of Meadowlands, with their current biographical info laid out for the world to see. However, many of their previous life files are blocked, and we as an internet community are only granted access as more is revealed about each character.

This week, the powers that be opened up the file to Tom Tyrell, and we learned this about him:

Meadowlands, this blog gets the nod

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

One of the sites I read on a regular basis (AfterEllen) just wrote a bit about me! Well, let’s be real, here. One of their bloggers just wrote about me, and it was in reference to Meadowlands. But whatever. I’M FAMOUS!!!

Hah. I love “scribegrrrl” and her blog, read it every day. So when I flipped over to her blog and saw she’d posted her love for Meadowlands. And then as I read, I saw a link to this tiny little space! I seriously almost lost my cookies here at work.

So head on over and show her some love!! And thanks for the link, scribegrrrl!

Meadowlands recap

meadowlands

In the latest episode of Meadowlands, the pretty little ribbon that ties the town together is starting to fray, and with each day the Brogan family spends there, the town seems less and less safe. Before the theme song has played out, we’ve seen Jack Donnelley’s body drug up from the forest where Mark re-buried it, Zoe and Tom fighting on the golf course, and Danny finding a mannequin hidden in the exact spot Mark buried the body.

Just popping in because I’m rather excited I found someone else blogging about the amazing Meadowlands series.

I’ve been searching for several weeks now to find fansites (like the many Tudors sites I’d found), other people blogging about this phenomenal show, anything really. And this is the first I’ve found! So if you’re out there, if you’re talking about Meadowlands, shoot me a comment with a link to your site, your blog post, anything! I want to get a list together of all the amazing Meadowlands action happening all over the web, but apparently I need your help!

Meadowlands Episode 3 Recap

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

episode 3

With the third episode of Meadowlands aired and now in repeats, the Brogan clan finds themselves deeper and deeper into the darkness that envelops Meadowlands. Picking up with the murder of Jack Donnelly and the reveal of Gordon’s true intentions in Meadowlands, Mark and Danny are left to clean up a huge mess before the girls find out what’s happened.

Almost discovered by Evelyn, the pair manage to work through Mark’s panic attack and mass amounts of blood, dumping Jack’s body in the hole he’d dug to fix their pipes earlier that day. Danny must then convince Mark to keep his shit together long enough for the mystery to blow over, no small feat for an autistic boy who has just begun talking again. Mark does as good as he can, only being tripped up when the police chief questions him on the soccer field about the color of the bar’s walls, their aliby for the night, and Mark slips up.

With the storyline focused so intently on the two Brogan men and their coverup of murder, little time was left for the Brogan women or the other Meadowlands characters. Their stories will have to be told later this week. My big question after last night’s episode is simply this: When will the psycho police chief crack under the self-imposed pressure he’s facing and beat someone to death or kill himself? Any bets?

Meadowlands recap - episode 2

Monday, June 25th, 2007

meadowlands 2

When we last left the Brogan family, they were just beginning to think the life of a witness protected family could end up working out for them. Mark had begun to talk again after four months, Zoe was making friends with the handyman, Danny was working on the bar and bonding over midnight soccer, and Evelyn was already warding off advances made by the town doctor!

This week’s episode brought much drama and even more destruction to what could never have been a quiet little suburban town. After being beaten almost to death, Jack Donnelly demands to be tranferred out of Meadowlands. Samantha agrees, on the condition he tell no one he is leaving. About the same time, Zoe decides she is Jack’s only hope at a normal life, after discovering his fear-induced and rage-based rapes and killings. Somehow she decides she can see the humanity in Jack and begins her quest to bring him back from the brink.

The Brogans also get a new neighbor, Gordon, whom Danny is convinced works for the crime family he is still afraid of. Why is Danny so afraid of them? We still don’t know if he ratted them out, if he was on their side or against them, if he was simply someone laundering money for them through his bar, or what. My guess? He started out laundering money and ended up an accessory to murder. At any rate, Danny’s paranoia kicks into high gear at the site of this man whom he remembers standing outside of the fire that nearly claimed Mark’s life.

Evelyn and Zoe head off to a dinner party at the good doctor’s house, wherein Zoe keenly figures out her mother’s flirtatious habits and knocks her down a few levels in her “mom rating”. Does anyone else covet Zoe’s hair? What about wanting to rip that choker off the good doctor’s wife’s neck? Why must she constantly be wearing such horrible items?

While the Brogan women are at the dinner party, Mark is at home alone, playing dressup in his sister’s clothes. All fine and good until Jack Donnelly shows up to tell Zoe he will be her willing patient, that he does not want to leave after all, and that he has decided to try to behave. This all goes down the crapper when he sees Mark’s fear, and attempts to rape him. Danny shows up in the nick of time, beating Jack to death with his bare hands.

It is at this moment Gordon shows back up, but in a twist so beautifully orchestrated it could have only been done by Showtime, Gordon was not sent into Meadowlands to kill Danny, but to kill Jack. When Samantha told him he’d be leaving, what she meant was permanently, and from the face of the earth.

Do we find out more regarding Gordon? What will the Brogan men do with Jack’s body? How long before we find out everyone’s dirty little secrets? Stick with me as I explore further into the dregs of Meadowlands!
