Is Showtime Developing A Sci-Fi Series?
Thursday, January 15th, 2009According to several news outlets (including About.com, which sounds strange), Showtime is developing a new sci-fi series titled Syns. The show was initially developed and then abandoned by the BBC, and thanks to Showtime’s good reations with the network they’ve taken over development.
Showtime has tapped some heavy hitters in this case, something they’ve been known to do with all their new shows. It’s being created by John McNamara, who was a consulting producer on Jericho, and by Sera Gamble, who was an executive story developer on Supernatural.

The show is said to have light sci-fi elements, but will “still be rooted in the real world”. So, less Battlestar Galactica and more Jericho sounds about right. Sera Gamble (pictured above) had this to say:
“This is something I’m developing while working on the show,” Gamble said. “There are so many steps between sitting down to write a script that you’re developing for a network and something actually being on the air, especially when you’re doing something for cable.”
