Watching Showtime

Just when you thought there couldn’t be more buzz surrounding the premiere of The Tudors, People magazine trumps all other gossip with this picture. It’s of Johnny and his love Reena Hammer at the premiere, but if you take a look at the zoomed in portion, you’ll notice what looks like a wedding band on Johnny’s finger!

Not so, claims the star. While it IS a gift from Reena, it’s an “eternity ring�? and has a special message just for him held in it. Whether that means it’s engraved or she simply gave it to him and said something meaningful, I’m sure we’ll never know.

I tend not to know what to think of this pair. Their fighting is widely publicized in Europe, with their biggest battles leaking over here to the States. And they’ve broken up and gotten back together more times than the Prom King and Queen when I was in high school. I can’t help but feel, however, that if they weren’t famous, their relationship would be considered firey but somehow normal. So if she wants to give him a wedding-like band and he wants to wear it, so be it. Here’s hoping that with all they’ve been through as a couple, they can learn from their mistakes and make it work this time!

Thanks to my pals over at Showtime, I’ve got some exclusive pics headed your way from the premiere last night of the new season of The Tudors. But first, here’s a video of the event.

The stars were out en masse last night in New York for the season premiere of The Tudors. Held at the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers, the event looked less dressy than most premieres, but fit perfectly with the mood, which was playful and fun. Tons of cute pics follow the jump, so settle in because it looks like the red carpet was a blast!

With the second season of The Tudors about to hit Showtime (March 30 for those who are counting down the dates), still after still from the second season are being released. For Charles Brandon fans, here’s some uber-sexy shots of Henry Cavill for you all to enjoy. In Henry Cavill news, he’ll be at Heathrow Airport on March 27 to promote the new Dunhill fragrance he’s the face of. Apparently the fragrance will only be shown in one Duty- Free shop at Heathrow, although eventually the fragrance will also be sold in London. If you’ve got a ticket to fly through Heathrow on the 27th, you could meet this hot man in the flesh!

So, who else knew that Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Natalie Dormer were going to be on The View yesterday? Because they were, and I missed it! The pair are in NYC to start the big promotional push for the new season of the Tudors. I’m assuming they’ll be on all the talk shows (both daytime and nighttime), with promotions coming to a head next Wednesday at the premiere of the second season.

I’m still trying to find some pictures of them at the taping, as well as some video of their time on set. If I can find any of that, I’ll post it back here for you. For those of you who are Showtime VIP Insiders, you’ve probably already received an e-mail about this, but for the rest of you, this will be brand new. Following the success of previewing episodes of The L Word online before they hit television (both the first episode of the season and episode eight, viewed over at Our Chart), Showtime has the first episode of the new Tudors season available for viewing!

It looks like you don’t have to be an Insider to watch the episode, but I recommend signing up anyhow … you get tons of insider info on what’s happening around the network before the rest of the public hears about it. I’m also going to go ahead and assume any language and sex scenes will be removed from the viewing. They did that with The L Word (to make it safer for the internet), so I’m assuming the same will happen here. Once you’ve gone ahead and watched it, post your reactions here!

Over the weekend a group of friends and I went and saw The Other Boleyn Girl. We smartly left all the boys we know out of the equation, opting to have a girls night, which was definitely the right decision. They’d have freaked out at the “chick flick�? nature of the film after ten minutes, without question.

Afterwards, I picked up the book to start reading it, but before I could crack the cover I started comparing the movie with Showtime’s The Tudors. Based on the same characters, following the same basic story (both take liberties, albeit different ones), there’s a lot to compare.

Just in case you didn’t get to see Showtime’s own Henry VIII on the big screen, starting today you can rent/buy this fabulous movie. Jonathan Rhys Meyers stars alongside Keri Russell, Terrance Howard, Robin Williams and Freddie Highmore in this romantic drama.

When an Irish rocker and an American classical cellist meet and quickly fall in love, life seems good. Until she finds out she’s pregnant and her rich father intervenes. The story follows August, the love child of the two young musicians, who has been living in an orphanage and sets off to New York to find his parents. Of course love finally reunites the three, and in between we’re treated to great music and some decent acting.

Head on out to your video store or local Target to pick up a copy today and then let me know what you thought. I tend to have a problem with Meyers in these “softer�? roles (Bend It Like Beckham anyone?), much preferring my Meyers to be all glammed up and sexed to the max, a la Velvet Goldmine or The Tudors. But I might be the only one. What’s your favorite JRM look?

With just a few weeks until the new season of the Tudors, there’s been a lot of talk of the show and it’s stars, as well as some great stills being released. And with The Other Boleyn Girl now out in theaters, there’s also been talk of comparisons between Natalie Dormer and Natalie Portman. Unfortunately for one of my favorite actresses, it looks like Miss Dormer is beating her out for best portrayal of Ann Boleyn.

• It looks like Jonathan Rhys Meyers is back together with girlfriend Reena Hammer. For the time being. The pair breaks up and makes up almost as fast as most people did in high school, so I’m not too worried about them staying together for long. Hopefully she’ll start being a better influence on him! • The Rose Rollins Fan Blog has a list of reasons we need a sixth season of The L Word. I’d say the only reason not to would be Paris Hilton.
• There’s a parents group calling for a ban on Dexter. I’m betting it won’t work, but kudos to them for trying. (EW online)
• Finally, I know it’s got nothing to do with Showtime, but Angelina Jolie has finally confirmed her pregnancy in her typical silent way. She showed up to the Spirit Awards in a super clingy dress, showing of the newest addition(s) to the Jolie-Pitt family in style! (Angelina Jolie Watch)

Can’t wait for the new season of The Tudors to air at the end of March? If you’re heading on vacation between March 16 and 30 and plan to stay at a Sheraton, you won’t have to! In an effort to promote the new season of the highly-acclaimed and now award-winning show, Showtime has struck a deal with the hotel conglomerate, allowing it’s season premiere to air for Sheraton guests two full weeks in adavance.

The Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers will also be the site of the season premeire on March 19.

“We’re excited to align our iconic brand with another leading brand in its industry — SHOWTIME,” said Hoyt H. Harper II, Senior Vice President for Sheraton Hotels and Resorts. “This partnership provides Sheraton guests special access to critically-acclaimed and popular content before it can be seen at other hotels.”

This isn’t the beginning of the partnership between the hotel chain and the network, however. Last year Sheraton Hotels made Showtime it’s premiere cable channel over HBO, and offered both Dexter and Brotherhood episodes before they aired on television. When guests gave both shows rave reviews, as well as loving access to the network in general, Sheraton stepped up it’s involvement to the new deal you’re seeing with The Tudors.

The season premiere will air on “Scene@Sheraton”, a new promotional brand the hotel chain is instituting. For more on Scene@Sheraton, check out this press release.

As for showing The Tudors early? I might have to check into a Sheraton for the night and watch it!
