L Word recap - season one, ep. 1-4

by

with the season finale of the L Word fast upon us, i thought it would be good to review where these lovely ladies have been. through their lives, loves, and losses they’ve grown to be one of America’s favorite groups of women.

Season One

episodes 1 & 2 “pilot episode” : jenny moves to LA to be with her boyfriend tim; bette and tina are trying to have a baby despite their sexual issues; dana the tennis player is severly closeted. when jenny meets marina, the owner of “the planet” (a local glbt-friendly cafe), her world is turned upside down with sexual confusion and excitement. bette and tina’s quest for pregnancy takes a few bumpy turns as well, between a therapist who believes they aren’t ready for kids and tina’s strong reaction to a black donor - with bette being half blakc, it understandably causes issue for her.

episode 3 “let’s do it’ : tim and jenny are now engaged, as he has no clue she’s exploring her sexuality in marina’s bed. tina uses marcus’ sperm to attempt impregnation, and dana crushes ona souix chef at the ocuntry club while getting scouted by Subaru. shane, meanwhle, is dealing with an obsessive ex-lover while alice’s own ex-lover continues to leave her wanting more. the laides deploy a “mission to ascertain the intent and disposition of one miss lara perkins” (the chef) but are unable to give dana any real help - that is, until lara kisses dana in the country club locker room!

episode 4 ” lies, lies, lies” : alice and gabby have hooked up again, but despite this alice must come to terms with gabby’s insensitive ways and end their mini-affair. bette attempts to bring “provocations” to the gallery, but runs into serious opposition from her board of directors. my favorite line? “we’re not starting out that way” … go lara!
