“LOL” Californication Recap

It’s been way too long since this episode aired, and I haven’t posted my notes from it yet, so I’m just posting my free-form notes from last Monday. Sorry for the lameness of it! I’ll put them after the jump so you only have to look if you really want to know what I think. Which I guess means I’m losing interest in the show, despite how good it is. I just wish Hank’s life could be more normal than it is, I think.
Hank’s having another church dream, and this time instead of a hot nun there’s Bill, as a priest. and then there’s Karen the nun. So strange. He wakes up screaming “you’re a gay priest” to Meredith in his bed.
Despite my hopes for Hank to have an adult relationship with someone, Meredith doesn’t seem to be that person. She says “LOL” in conversation, like it’s proper grammar or something. Loser. I officially hate her now.
hank’s agent isn’t having sex with his wife, and she’s having a hard time with it. he’s obviously still feeling guilty for the pseudo-affair, and isn’t willing to have sex. then she puts her finger in his ass and it totally freaks him out.
hank’s trying to write his next column and the door is pounding. bill’s at the door, and hank thinks he knows about mia and him fucking mia. instead, he wants hank to go be the guest speaker at her school instead of him. in return, bill won’t call off the wedding but he will give hank his jacket.
awesome that mia goes to a catholic school. an all-girls catholic school. all the little girls are totally into him, flirting it up.
the english teacher is a total freak, using words like “womanninty” … and talks freely about hitting on (and possibly fucking) all the girls. the whole time he’s talking to the creepy teacher, all the girls are waiting outside the classroom, so hank jumps out the window in avoidance.
i love becca in her dress and her twisted-up hair. she’s having a guitar lesson, and the teacher is super-hot. he’s wearing a shirt that has a bad word on it so he turns it inside out to keep her from seeing it.
hank’s on the radio with HENRY ROLLINS!!! but he’s not playing himself, instead a radio-jock. they talk about the blog and how he doesn’t take it seriously, despite the fact that people all over LA love it. he rants about how stupid people are getting and how it bugs him, and really says something important.
is he hitting on karen?? sort of creepy. while becca was upstairs getting a present for him, her teacher is out flirting with mia at the pool. she’s so clearly got her first crush and while it’s super cute it sucks that she’s got a step-sister like mia.
hank’s having dinner with the ass-player, and he’s talking her through why it wasn’t a good idea to go down there. mr. agent and hank’s girlfriend walk in together, and they’re on a double-date. meredith freaks out on him for his interview and how he made fun of her saying LOL all the time.
after the date, he heads out to visit becca and ends up talking to karen. when he asks “where’s my girl?” karen starts answering about herself. becca’s already asleep, so the two end up talking, and he asks her if he was mean to her, made her feel stupid. she says he wasn’t mean, but he can be hard on people sometimes.
in the midst o fthe nighttime montage, you see the guitar teacher picking up mia and becca sees it too. what a bitch.
hank wakes up to see meredith grabbing her stuff and leaving his key for him. and he finds out the real reason she’s breaking up with him is her married boyfriend left his wife. their breakup fight leaves me thinking they’ll end up back together sooner rather than never. even hank knows the married guy will go back to his wife, and he tells her to come find him when that happens. one last sexcapade and she’s off.
the next day hank and becca take her dog for a walk and she admits her heart hurts, and wants to know when it stops hurting. he tells her to listen to dylan’s “blood on the tracks”, calls it a classic heartbreak album.
