“Look Out, Here They Come” - L Word Recap

Tasha and Jodi are both back in LA, Shane’s got herself some serious relationship drama (as does Phyllis), Bette and Tina are getting closer and closer, and then there’s Jenny. Not to mention Helena’s crazy jail time and so much more, how can the second episode top the first?

Now that her hair salon has burnt down, Shane’s got to find work somewhere, and she starts by doing hair at the wedding of Jenny’s financier’s daughter’s wedding. Did you catch all of that? There’s the bride and two bridesmaids, and it’s pretty clear that all three are intensely attracted to her almost immediately. Looks like Shane will be back to her old tricks before we know it! While she’s doing their hair they get into a discussion on her sexuality, whether or not she can get married, and if she’s got a girlfriend. All the while the three are fighting for her attention. This won’t go well.

Tina’s trying to date, having met someone through Our Chart, and during their lunch date she spends more time talking about Bette than anything else. Not so good for a first date to be talking about your ex! To make matters worse, Bette and Jodi show up to eat at the Planet at the same time. That pretty much ends their date, and Tina starts to realize she might not be as over Bette as she tries to pretend to be. After Tina joins Bette, Jodi and Alice at their table, Jodi’s translator runs into Max and develops instant attraction. Too bad Alice and Bette giggle over it like little girls.

side note: When will they start treating Max as an equal?

Kit and Max notice a girl sitting in the corner who’s been there for three days, reading Jenny’s book. They introduce themselves (her name is Adele), and then when Jenny shows up they force her to not act like a total ass and converse with her. They find out Adele went to film school and helped take care of her mother, and that “Sum Of Her Parts” was the one thing that got her through that tough time. When Jenny remembers she’s late to the wedding and doesn’t have a gift, Adele offers to help her out. This looks like a match made in heaven!

Back at the wedding, Shane’s screwed both of the bridesmaids, and the wedding hasn’t even started yet. Too bad neither of them is doing it because they’re lesbians. Each has an ulterior motive, and it’s going to backfire horribly on Shane. At least when it comes time to calm down the bride, help her to remember why she’s getting married, Shane does the right thing and reminds her that the things Madison and her fiance have in common are good things, that they sound like they’ll make a marriage work. In other relationship issues, Joyce suprises Phyllis at her work, and because she’s ready to play the field Phyllis breaks up with her. And then when she tells Joyce that she wants to start seeing a woman she met at the “coming out” party Joyce threw for her, the whole thing escalates. Joyce leaves in a huff, unwilling to accept the breakup.

Helena’s prison experience isn’t going so well. In the showers she gets attacked and asked to “click up” while threatening her with a knife. That’s when Dusty steps in, saves Helena from the ladies n the gang. I wonder if she’ll owe her now?!

After meeting with a lawyer on base who used to be her friend (Beech), Tasha discovers that she’s going to run into a lot more trouble than she thought. Back at home, she and Alice get into a mini-fight over whether or not she’s fighting to try to overturn “don’t ask, don’t tell” or just to fight to stay in the military. Alice has a hard time with it all, but in the end she’s supportive.

Tasha and Alice head out to dinner, a double date with Bette and Jodi. Tasha’s being asked too many questions about why she didn’t end up heading to Iraq, and while she’s super uncomfortable, Alice doesn’t help break it up. Instead, what stops the conversation is Bette spotting Phyllis and Joyce, out to dinner at the same restaurant. The pair appear to be breaking up in that public place! Between the people breaking up and Bette and Jodi making out at the table, Alice breaks down and tells them, despite Tasha’s protests. This clearly causes a fight, with Tasha telling Alice it’s her life and she deserves to be able to decide who to tell and when to tell them. They decide to leave, and when they get back to the table, they discover Joyce and Phyllis there. Good time to leave, for sure!

Back at the wedding, Shane is having issues with the two bridesmaids she screwed. It’s looking like she really doesn’t like all the attention, possibly for the first time ever. While Shane’s trying to hide from the women, Jenny’s using and abusing her newfound friend Adele, who seems to be sort of stalker-cute about Jenny. While she’s trying to leave the party, Shane gets one more suprise. The mother of the bride has summoned her and wants to sleep with her as well! But before they get into the sex too much, the bridesmaids hear them (because of course both are searching desperately for Shane). And before you can scream orgy, the three of them get into a fight over Shane, who escapes out the back door and hops into Jenny’s car, leaving hers behind!
