Mark 8:36 - Brotherhood Season 1 Pilot
Since I hadn’t seen the first season of Brotherhood, I’m here to recap it episode by episode before I start in on season two. Which may seem like a huge waste of time, but based on what I’ve seen so far, there will need to be some catchup played before all the new fans can get what’s happening.
The first episode, “Mark:36″, we meet the entire family and a host of their friends. Tommy and Michael Caffee are as different as two brothers can be, and this first episode doesn’t pull any punches in proclaiming that. Tommy is in New Jersey’s state House of Representatives, a politician pretending to be straight but just as crooked behind closed doors as his brother Michael. Michael has just returned from a seven year absence in which everyone thought he was dead, only to take back up all the illegal operations he’d participated in before his disappearance. Conveniently, Paddy (one of the Irish mobsters in the area) has been brutally beaten to death, and as he was the only thing standing in the way of tremendous power for both brothers things look to be on the up for the Caffee family.
You also meet Eileen Caffee, Tommy’s cheating wife. The two have three little girls, but that doesn’t stop her from running around on her husband with what appears to be an old high school flame. Tommy doesn’t know yet, but in a town like theirs it won’t be long before he does.
We also get to meet Declan Giggs, an old family friend. Now a police officer, you can tell the appearance of Michael is going to cause some serious problems for Declan at his job, as he can no longer pretend the Caffee family is staying away from organized crime.
In this first episode we watch Michael give his mother counterfit money, Thomas navigate the legal system in much the same way his brother navigates the criminal world, and Freddie Cork learn very fast he’s not going to have much control over things now that the Caffee family is reunited.
Showtime, Brotherhood, Michael Caffee, Jason Isaacs, Thomas Caffee, Jason Clarke, Eileen Caffee, Annabeth Gish, Declan Giggs, Ethan Embry, Freddie Cook, Kevin Chapman, Rose Caffee, Fionnula Flanagan
