“Matthew 22:10″ - Brotherhood Season One Recaps
It’s the season finale, and what better way to tie all the loose ends together than at a wedding. From Tom being pushed to the brink politically to Michael wearing out his welcome, the Caffey boys have too much on their plates. Add to that the feds, Judd and his wife, and Mary Rose finally putting all the pieces together, and we’ve got a season finale of champions! For the full recap, keep reading.
Someone’s getting married, and it’s bringing out the whole neighborhood. Pete shows up with a haircut and his goatee shaved (not near as cute as before with all the curls) and he and Eileen have a heart to heart moment. Moe’s the only one not at the reception because Freddie Cork told him to clip Michael by the end of the night, and he’s freaking out about it. Marty’s got a wire on him and is being sent into the reception by the feds to pursue Freddie, get him to start talking. Deco and Marty are having issues with him being party to bring down Tommy … but the reality is they’re all wrapped up together.
Before Tommy and Eileen get up to dance at the reception, Judd’s wife shows up to tell him Judd wants to talk to him but won’t make the first move. Instead of dancing with his wife Tommy heads off to talk to Judd. He tells Tommy he’s interested in building a living monument of his power, one that he can pass on to Tommy. Then he says he’s wanting to make Tommy a king, but he has to be willing to do what’s necessary. With that Judd takes him out to visit with Ellis, one of the feds out to bring down Freddie Cork. They say that to go on the record in a sworn deposition now will help him to keep from marring his credibility later as he runs for larger and more prominent offices. Tom’s issue is that he might be asked questions about things Judd’s helped him with, and Judd says all he has to do is “honestly” not remember.
Cassie tries to dance with Deco, and he tells her he can’t, that he’s on the job. She gets all freaked out and starts to talk all loud and ask questions. He goes to confront Ralph about the setting up of Tommy Caffey, and it turns out Deco was the only one in the dark about it all, that they all think he’s in too deep with them.
While this is happening, Eileen’s out smoking with two ladies she used to be friends with. They’re all talking about how she’s on the way up while they’re stuck at the regular Hill level of existing. Eileen asks if they have any pot, and thank god they think she’s kidding! When she gets back in she and Tommy are dancing and Tom tells her how Judd wants him to rat out his brother. Eileen thinks he should do it, because Michael has made his own choices. Tommy says he’d be willing to pack up the whole family and move to Omaha (represent!!!) to get away from all the drama on The Hill, and Eileen’s willing to do it, but we all know they’re going to stay.
(side note: Why does everyone say Omaha when they talk about wanting to move to the middle of nowhere? It’s not that small of a city!)
Mary Rose sees Cathy head out to meet Michael in secret in his car, but doesn’t see Moe sneaking up to shoot Michael as per Freddie Cork’s orders. While Michael and Cathy are having high school sex Moe sneaks up to shoot, but stops short as he looks up and sees Mary Rose watching from the stairs to the reception all.
Back in the reception, Deco sees Marty talking to Tommy and so he calls his cell phone to get him to stop talking to Marty, telling him Marty’s wearing a wire. They meet outside and Deco tells him his side of everything, putting all the pieces of the puzzle together on the deal. Distressed, Deco tells Tommy he’s putting a wall up between their friendship to protect himself. Back in the reception, Marty confronts Deco about calling Tommy, but he denies it.
When Michael shows back up still alive, Freddie heads out to find Moe and thinks he’s wearing a wire. Good thing for him he’s not. He gives him until midnight to kill Michael or Moe himself will be strewn out in pieces all over the state.
After talking to Deco, Tommy pulls Judd aside and tells him everything Deco told him. After talking to him it’s clear he’s not the man he once was, and after talking to his wife Peggy it’s made clear he’s a little too old to be doing the job he’s doing. Peggy tells him to protect Judd at all costs.
As the reception moves forward, people are getting drunker and drunker and starting to do ridiculous things. Deco tells Cassie to go home and move out before he gets back, and then opens up and tells her everything. She freaks out and leaves, and then Deco drunkenly gives the newlyweds advice that they should just lie to each other, and unwittingly also tells it to Cathy’s husband. He asks if it really works for him, and then decides to go his own way, walking up to Michael and starting a fight with him! The fight is broken up fast by Freddie and one of his goons, but the point is made.
Mary Rose, in one of her smarter moments, goes up to Tommy and tells her she saw something outside. Tom heads out to find Moe, sees him in the car and heads back in to talk to Freddie, telling him to get his one-eared goon out of the parking lot. When Tommy tells Freddie he’s gonna tell Michael to get rid of him, Freddie lets him know Michael’s like a plague, and i a big part of the reason the neighborhood’s going downhill so fast. When Tommy tells him to leave Michael alone, Freddie tells him to get out of his way or he’ll ruin him via telling the paper how he bribed the church to get a priest at his son’s funeral and how he kept some of the money for himself.
Rose is drinking her way through the wedding when Peg sits down next to her and starts talking about her relationship with Judd. Turns out she knew all along, and even tells Rose she wasn’t the only one he had on the side. As Peg leaves, Jimmy asks her to dance and she agrees if only to make Judd notice her a little bit.
After smoking up in the woods with her friends and the guy from the shoe shop, she heads back inside and the guy starts to kiss on her. She walks into the bathroom to find the bride crying in the stall! Turns out she got married because she’s pregnant, but she’s not sure it’s his!!! Eileen has this sweet moment with this super young (20) bride, and tells her she got married when she was 19, and just as terrified as the bride is. They have a sweet, lie-filled moment of trying to make each other feel better, and then the bride goes back to the party.
Tommy pulls Michael aside and asks him to leave. When Michael says he won’t, Tommy tells him about he feds that are after them. Michael tells him to tell the feds everything, to not hold anything back, and that he’ll be fine. Deco’s out in back throwing up and as he’s finishing up he sees Michael giving Ralph money. Turns out they’re going to hurt Marty because he’s turning not just on Freddie but Tommy as well. Michael tells Deco to go home and sober up and they’ll talk in the morning, and Deco loses it, kicking in Michael’s head. Looks like Moe won’t have to do his job after all! Michael’s face is bashed in, and he looks like he’s dead.
