Meadowlands episode seven recap

meadowlands 1.7

With Danny desperate to escape the hell that is Meadowlands, the seventh episode is full of running and hiding and yelling and a few dramatic twists. All the stuff of a great Showtime drama, that’s for sure. In a sudden and rash move, Danny decides to have the bar ready to open in just two days’ time; this is a feat almost impossible to pull off, and it has Evelyn worried about Danny as he begins to spend all of his time in a mad dash to have everything ready. To occupy herself, she confronts Dr. York about his unmitigated and unexplained accusations the other day.

Upon the discovery of Creepy Abigail’s sex games with David, Evelyn immediately heads over to York central to confront Lady Crazy. Am I the only one that wishes Evelyn would have grabbed that damned choker and pulled it a bit tighter around Abigail’s neck, putting her out of her misery?!?! She is clearly Satan’s Spawn. The two women, just short of a cat-fight, decide to steer clear of each other once and for all, hoping to put an end to the drama. Thus Evelyn heads off to the golf course to meet Danny and Zoe, to see how all her time on the course has been for Zoe.

While at the golf course, there are some strange conversations. You learn Tom was the first resident of Meadowlands and that every resident has taken a liking to the place except for one. Could he be talking about Jack, or was there another resident who flew the coop? From discussions of life at Meadowlands to flirting with Zoe, Tom sure seems to be getting along well with the Brogan clan. There was no way Zoe’s parents could have missed the snuggling the two were doing over putting lessons! All is going swimmingly until David shows up to threaten Evelyn yet again. This time, however, he’s decided that the only way he’ll let bygones be bygones is if she’ll sleep with him just the once. Evelyn tells him where he can shove it and runs back to Danny.

Clearly in the throws of a psychotic breakdown, Dr. York proceeds to chug a beer with Danny and work just enough threats into Evelyn’s day that she agrees to meet him at his office at 7:30. While Evelyn is lying in the fetal on her bed, Danny is out doing some strange stuff of his own, from attempting to fill up a gas can to mailing a letter to Cuba to buying four cans of black spray paint to robbing the grocery store’s till. With little explanation, the most you discover is that Danny and Evelyn once spent a holiday in Cuba and he is attempting to find a way for them to head back there. Plans? Intercontinental travel? These details don’t seem to phase him as he desperately attempts to reclaim the life he threw away.

When David cannot seduce Evelyn to his liking he attempts to rape her in one of the creepier scenes this season. At least he is unable to go through with it, although I think in real life she’d have been raped by him long ago if he really were that crazy. I give the network and the writers credit for showing her struggling and not giving in.

By the end of the episode, all seems back to normal with both the Brogans and the Yorks .. that is, until we are given a glimpse of Mark kissing Jezebel. Wait, I thought he was all about her mom?!?! The kids have apparently been playing a game loosely titled “Shag, Holiday or Marry”, and when Mark is asked his fantasy intentions for Jezebel he naively claims all three. She pushes and pushes, and being the adolescent boy that he is, he ends the show with a rather passionate kiss. Does it lead to more? What does this mean for his relationship with Brenda, who as just gotten herself some contraception?!?! I cannot wait for next week to find out!
