Meadowlands episode six recap - second try!
I’m back to try to recap this amazing episode one more time. With so much happening to the residents of Meadowlands this week, it’s hard to keep it all straight even just two days out, but i’ll certainly try to do just that for you. We watched Danny’s mental health deteriorate just a little bit farther, learned that Samantha’s upbringing might just be a lie, and saw Brenda try to end her affair with Mark.
It’s good to know, first off, that Danny Brogan is not truly losing it’s mind, but that instead Freddie has been instructed to mess with it. Finally being told that Freddie is not truly one of them, it does not ease Danny’s mind in any way to know that he has been the recipient of failed mental training in an attempt to help him transition to Meadowlands faster.
The woman behind this mental reprogramming? Samantha - Danny’s handler. Samantha has her own issues to deal with this episode as well, however. A phone call and a last-minute meeting with her father reveals much damage to her childhood. Samantha’s father is a professor, the man responsible for the ideas Meadowlands (and all the other communities that build up Cape Wrath) has been built on. In what turns out to be her last meeting with her father, she discovers that she is really Una, the little girl her father rescued from an abusive home many years ago. Una, who had no previous contact with humans (she’d been kept in a box until she was four), became an experiment to see if you could re-condition people’s minds. She is the proof that Meadowlands can work.
Samantha comes back from visiting with her dying father (he commits suicide after telling her he is dying), must then deal with Freddie having instituted the mental reprogramming gone wrong on Danny. Not that I think he’s fully recovered, but Danny at least knows the truth about Meadowlands and the people running it.
The Brogan family has plenty of other issues to deal with in this episode as well. Mark’s affair with Brenda continues to heat up the bedroom, although Brenda attempts to end the affair once again. Will it ever work? I doubt it, as Mark is rather persistent and enjoying his new-found passtime.
Evelyn’s got issues of her own, with Dr. York continuing to profess his love for her despite her repeated claims to not feel the same. When his wife Abigail goes shopping with Evelyn, she takes a dress back home and begins to play dress-up. Obviously knowing what her husband is feeling, she tells him to call her Evelyn while they make love, reassuring him by claiming it was Evelyn’s idea. After the steamy role-playing affair, he hunts down Evelyn to tell her just how disgusting she truly is. Trouble with that is that she has no idea what he’s talking about. I smell trouble and more drama in the next episode!
If I’ve forgotten anything I apologize, but stick around for the final three episodes!
