“Not Dark Yet 3:6″ - Brotherhood Season Two Recaps

Now that Tommy’s decided two can play at the game Eileen was playing last season, I’m betting all hell is going to break loose in the Caffey family. That blonde from last week’s episode? He’s sleeping with her now, making visits to her house while he’s supposed to be at work. She knows about Eileen, and also thinks there’s other mistresses in his life. Over at Rose’s house Michael and Cath are helping Rose make a meal. She’s not a huge fan of Cath, and it’s made pretty clear in how she speaks to her, asking her to do Michael’s laundry now that he’s spending so much time at her house. Once the family shows up for dinner, Rose tells everyone to sit in their respective places, squeezing Cath and Colin in around the “real” family (and making it plain she doesn’t want them at her table, but will tolerate it). The bombshell of the day comes when she asks Tommy to sit at the head of the table instead of Michael, who usually gets that honor.

Down at the Green Bar Deco’s sitting outside in his car, contemplating making the jump to “bad cop” when Freddie calls him up and tells him to come inside, that he’ll buy him breakfast. And like that, a turned cop (at least in theory) is born. While he’s eating, Freddie tells him there’s a new Asian whorehouse opening up shop in town, and they’re trying to undercut Freddie’s prices. He wants to send Deco in to talk to them, tell them they either need to up their prices or get the hell out of town.

Back at work, Tommy’s talking to a builder who’s bought a bunch of property there but hasn’t been able to get the permits to build. The Brit wants to form a partnership with Tommy, buying 50% of Lands Down (the company Tommy supposedly has nothing to do with, but really owns), so he can get through the red tape of permits and start developing on The Hill. In return, he will become a vice president at Bodhi Company, with salary, benefits and a pension included.

Someone’s stealing dad’s car! Mary Rose has her parent’s car, and is on the phone with a friend talking about getting beer when she runs over a newspaper box on the corner. There’s a huge scrape along the side of the car, which means there’s no way she won’t get caught. She heads to Cath’s house looking for Michael, hoping he can help her out somehow, but he’s working a job for Freddie with Colin. While they wait, Colin stirs up trouble by bringing up the Sunday dinner seating arrangement switch, telling him the real reason is that she’s jealous of Cath. And while he’s probably right, it’s not really his place to be bringing it up. Just then the dude they’ve got to get money from walks out of the club and they go to work reminding him he needs to pay up BY KILLING HIM!! And they dump the body at the old factory that’s being turned into condos by the development company Tommy’s about to partner up to. Back in the car they’re discussing going to get a drink when Michael has another one of his seizures! After a few seconds he resumes to normal as if nothing had happened.

Eileen shows up at Cath’s house to pick up Mary Rose. Turns out the car wasn’t her parents’, it was her grandmothers. Eileen is super pissed, reminding Mary Rose that stealing a car, driving without a license and going to a party in Massachutsetts isn’t a good idea, and that if her father (or her Uncle Michael) find out she’s dead. Their solution to the huge dent/scrape in the car? Dump it somewhere so Rose will think it was stolen. Then the cops can find it and the insurance will pay for the damages, no harm no foul (snort!). Cath even pitches in, getting her neighbor to watch the kids while she drives Eileen and Mary Rose home from their car dumping escapade. They dump the car in a paring lot, and while Eileen is parking the car, Cath and Mary Rose are talking about how what she did isn’t the end of the world. Looks like they’re going to be fast friends!

Back at the whore house, Mo and Deco are heading into the competition’s lair to discuss their business issues. Mo can’t seem to control himself, while Deco tries to make nice. They get jerked around and then head off empty-handed, told to come back the next day. The next day Tommy finds out a dead body was found in front of a Lands Down building. Looks like every reporter in Rhode Island also knows about it, and knows about the business merger that’s going through regarding the company, a development firm, and Tommy. Things might not go well for the next few days for the Representative! When Tom finds out the deceased was a gambler, he instantly knows Michael was involved and heads to the bar to confront him. Colin sticks up for Michael (of course), but Tommy brushes him off, only to find out Michael didn’t know it was his company when he dumped the body.

When Rose finds out her car was stolen, her first call is to Michael while she orders Eileen to call the cops. While this is going on, Mo’s drunk in front of his whorehouse, and gets so riled up he kills one of the Asian guys running their whorehouse. When Deco shows up to the mess he finds out the guy died because he flipped Mo the bird. Deco threatens to arrest Mo for murder, and then hammers at him for what he did. After sending him outside, Deco goes to where Mo locked up the girls and has one of them call Lee Phang (the owner) to tell him the police are looking for him.

Cath shows up to Eileen’s to tell her that she’s had a thought. If the cops do manage to find Rose’s car, the parking garage probably has video cameras and they’ll be found out. So they head to pick up the car, but when they get there, there’s a guy sitting in it smoking! What the??? The drag him out of the car, and send him on his way. When he gets lippy, Cath pulls a gun on him and threatens to shoot him! A totally pointless moment except for it bonds the two women in the moment, sealing what will surely become a friendship.

Tommy’s having lunch with the president of Bodhi Company, and he’s freaking out because of all the bad publicity. Tommy suggests they go ahead with the buying of properties and making construction plans, but in the merger contract they write in a clause saying they won’t start any construction for twelve months. This will give plenty of time for things to blow over while they can re-write some good press. “Making old friends new.” Sure, that’ll work. While they’re talking, Tommy’s fling walks by, and his business partner knows her! Poor Tommy is visibly flustered, but seems to pull it off okay. I’m betting it’ll be two episodes before that comes back to haunt him.

Back at the whore house, Deco and Mo are waiting for Lee Phang to show up, Deco gives Mo even more grief. Finally the owner shows, but isn’t willing to raise his prices to $10 more than what Freddie’s establishment charges. Frankly, Phang seems more interested in the fact that Deco is both a cop AND works for Freddie. When he “politely” declines the offer to raise his prices, Deco goes all crazy on him, bashing his hand for awhile with the butt of Mo’s gun. I would assume that did the trick, but you don’t see, because next thing you know the pair are walking out of the building with Mo following Deco like a puppy he’s so impressed. Deco hightails it back to his pad to shower off the dirtiness he’s become. You can’t shower that off Deco! After his shower he snorts some Vicodin to make the pain go away, washing it down with Jameson’s. Such a together man, that one. His next move? If you said call Cassie, you’re RIGHT! She of course yells and screams, but he says that she was right all along. He doesn’t deserve her and he’s not going to bother her anymore. Bottoming out, anyone???

Eileen and Cath take Rose’s car to a guy named Limpy (nice) to have it fixed. When Cath pulls the “Michael will kill me if he finds out what I did to the car!” line, he promises to have it fixed for her by the next day! She’s got the deal sealed until she asks for him to do it for free. He freaks out about that, but in the end he agrees (she basically threatens him). Eileen is so impressed by this it’s ridiculous. After they leave Limpy’s Cath blazes a dooby to relax. You can see how bad Eileen wants some, and when Cath makes a comment about her never touching the stuff, she makes it clear she does, and so the two bond even further over weed. Looks like Eileen has someone to model her life after!

Tommy shows up for his regularly scheduled affair meeting, and his lady friend has decided that she doesn’t want to fuck face-to-face anymore, because she doesn’t want to see his rage. Not that it’s her he’s mad at, and not that she wants to stop screwing him, she just doesn’t want to see his face. Looks like someone’s had it with Tommy’s sourpuss attitude! After work/screwing around, Tommy takes Mary Rose out for hot dogs and they run into Freddie Cork. He wants to know if Lands Down is going to seriously wait a full year to start construction. He owns the property next to it, and if they never build he loses money too. Rather than start a fight, Tommy simply tells Freddie to take his problems up with the guy who dumped the body on the construction site. We all know they both know who that is, so that ends things.

The next day Eileen and Cath go to pic up the car and Limpy’s painted the door the wrong color! And, he doesn’t have any of the real color, so now Cath and Eileen are back to square one, looking for a place to dump the car. They take it out of town to a gravel shoot to dump it in a parking lot and Eileen about gets run over by a truck because she’s not looking. She’s run into a fence and up a curb, so they decide it’s as good a spot as any to dump the thing and take off.

That night at the police station Deco checks in with the boss, totally stoned off his gourd. His boss doesn’t even look him in the eye, just cares that Freddie is happy with life and with Deco so that eventually they can bust him hard. Freddie, meanwhile, is busting Michael’s chops for dumping the body where he did. Looks like Michael just can’t catch a break anywhere these days, as Freddie’s decided to take 50% off the top of Mulligan’s earnings until construction starts up in a year and he goes back to earning money from it.

Driving with Cath, Michael admits he hopes they never find Rose’s car so he can convincer her to let him buy something new. Cath reminds him that Rose is just jealous of Cath and Michale reminds her that she can’t have him. Cath says that Michael’s new home is with her. Looks like they’re on their way to Rose’s house for Sunday dinner, and while Rose is waiting for Michael to get there Colin tells her that Michael was hurt by the whole “head of the table business”. She tells him it’s none of his business, and that they can all start without her. Just then Michael walks in, and Rose tells him that they found her car. She then gives Michael back his spot at the head of the table. With that, all seems to be well again in the Caffey household.
