“Resistance Is Futile” - Dexter Recap

Now that we know Dexter knows Lila set fire to her own apartment and Deb and company know the Bay Harbor Butcher is one of their own, things are about to heat up hard core. Will Dexter be able to take Doakes off his hands? What about Lila? And will Deb find out her brother isn’t all he seems to be?

Now that Dexter knows Lila is bad for her, Deb’s super excited to be right, and isn’t wasting any time letting Deb know. Or? He’s dragging a half cut up body through the office. Must be a dream, and a creepy one at that! Turns out he’s sleeping outside of Rita’s house, but before he can leave she catches him. Looks like he was trying to be sure Lila didn’t show up to harm Rita or the kids and fell asleep. It’s clear he still loves her and the kids, and Rita still has feelings for him, despite her not wanting to be with him. He even goes so far as to apologize, tell Rita how stupid he was for messing up so horridly. It’s good he realizes what he lost in Rita, but does he really mean it, or does he miss the simplicity of it all?

As he’s leaving Rita’s house to go clean up the remains of Jimenez, he notices he’s got a tail. Not Doakes, but might just be the FBI following him after his failed interview with Lundy. Instead of going to clean up after his dead body, he heads home to change and go to work.

Maria’s trying to get ahold of Doakes, who left her hanging on a security job she had lined up for him with one of those agencies that does the freelance work in Iraq (among other places). And she’s done with him after he doesn’t answer the phone, instead telling him Lundy and his folks are looking for him. Doakes, meanwhile, is getting stuff out of his trunk, heading to the airport. Where’s he going?

Deb and Lundy are getting their dirty on, not at all “taking it slow” like they said they would. Am I the only one who is creeped out by their relationship? Then he drops the bomb that he thinks they should tell everyone at work they’re together as a way to help their relationship go the distance. She’s not okay with that, and it clearly upsets him. Just then the phone rings, and Lundy jumps up and starts getting dressed like his life depends on it. Won’t tell Deb what the deal is, ending the whole “full disclosure” discussion so he can get to work.

When Dexter shows up to work he finds out Lundy’s shut the Miami PD out of the case because they think they have a suspect. Dex is immediately worried they’ve found him out, but my prediction is it’s Doakes they’re going to pin it on. His outburst in Lundy’s office combined with him fleeing the city aren’t going to help any. And then Deb walks in and everyone starts calling her Lundy’s pet, assuming she knows who they think is the Butcher. Turns out Lundy’s brought in his own Blood Spatter Experts as well, and they’re waiting in Dexter’s office for him, going through his stuff (from files to computer).

Flashback to a “don’t get caught” moment with Harry, and then he’s taken in to watch a man executed. Nice way to teach his son the “this is what happens when you get caught” lesson! So creepy it’s ridiculous. I guess Harry had his methods, but that seems a little severe.

Deb finally gets a chance to talk to Lundy, and she brings up the whole “full disclosure” thing again, afraid that’s why he bailed out of the house that morning. He assures her that it wasn’t about her, that instead “something’s up” and that he can’t tell her. Cryptic Lundy tells her he can’t tell her because she doesn’t want to know. AAAAhhhh!

Doakes is in Port Au Prince, Haiti, meeting with a man from his past. Whoever he is, he used to smuggle people across the border out of Haiti, but now works for his father in law as a travel agent. Doakes wants him to take him to the hospital so he can use a lab without being bothered. He finally gets him to agree, not admitting he’s in trouble, and says he’ll be back with the slides.

Back in Dexter’s lab, the FBI crime geeks are still looking through his computer, pissing him off enough that he finally kicks Dexter out of his own office! Now he can head back to the crime scene to clean up after himself. Before he can get out of the office he hears Lila’s laugh and heads over to find out what the hell she’s doing there! Turns out she’s heading off for drinks with the boys, and threatens to start telling tales of Dexter’s past if he doesn’t come with. Once again she’s derailed him! Such a bitch.

In the bathroom, Dexter has followed Lila to ask her what the hell she wants. She tries to say she’s worried he’s using again, but Dexter’s not falling for her shit. She’s still trying to be inside Dexter’s world, telling him she knows how tiring it is to hold up a mask to everyone, that it’s like looking in a mirror when she looks at him. Poor Dexter, he’s going to have to kill Lila to be rid of her! And to make matters worse, when they’re all leaving for the night, Dexter still has a tail!

Rushing back to his apartment, he discovers his slides are gone, and thinks Lundy’s found them! Lucky for him Lundy’s not finding anything because Doakes has the slides! Deb’s there, and she’s talking out her feelings about Lundy and Dexter’s not even paying attention because he’s so freaked out. Just then the Feds knock on the door, telling Dexter Lundy wants to see him immediately. Deb freaks out, and then gets called in so says she’ll follow Dexter (and the Feds that are escorting him) to the office.

At the office, Dexter is walking like a man walking down Death Row on his way to the gas chamber. When he gets into Lundy’s office, it turns out his slides are sitting there on Lundy’s desk. After he pus on rubber gloves, they let Dexter touch the slides, and then ask him to explain it to him. “Trophies” is all Dexter says. That’s when Lundy tells him the primary suspect is Doakes, that he fits the profile, he left the country, and that they found the slides in the trunk of his car. Dexter even goes so far as to use Doakes’ words to Dexter on the Feds. That’s when they say they’ve been keeping an eye on Dexter, giving him protective detail in order to keep Doakes off him. And then they tell him they’re asking him to analyze the slides, match them to bodies, and are even making him the Lead Forensics Tech in regards to the slides!

James calls Maria, telling her he didn’t do it. He tells her he can’t turn himself in until he has proof he’s innocent, that the next time she sees him he’ll have all the proof he needs. Then he tells her she’s meant a lot to him and hangs up. Aw. Doakes was in love with Maria the whole time!

Dexter’s in the lab, taking samples from all his slides so they can identify all the blood samples. He’s wiped the box clean of prints so they don’t find his prints anywhere on th box, but also so they don’t find James’ prints either. Just as he’s finishing up, the FBI lab geeks show up to see if they can help. He tells them they have to sit and watch the samples as they incubate, unable to leave the lab for twelve hours to make sure no one messes with them! Nice payback! Then he tries to leave the station, Angel confronts him about Lila, and Dex tells him he can have her if he wants. Angel doesn’t care if Lila’s using him, he just wants to get laid!

Looks like Lundy is giving Doakes’ name to the press, saying he’s wanted for questioning. Maria clearly has issue with this and lets him know that. She says she wants to be the one to deal with the media but he tells her there’s no way. She’s being forced to submit on something she doesn’t want to, and she doesn’t like it.

On the way home, Dexter’s phone rings, and it’s Rita. Poor Dexter has to try to have the makeup conversation with Rita while he’s got all those agents sitting around him! She wants to get together with him to talk, as soon as possible. Dexter says he’ll meet with her the next day so they can get back together, and then they hang up the phone. Looks like things are finally getting back on track for him. Back home, the agents do a full sweep before leaving him alone, and then tell him they’re stationing men at the front and side entrances, as well as two in the parking lot. Dexter still has to get to Jimenez’ body to dispose of it, and with those people all around him, he’s got to walk to his boat and then get there the back way!

Maria’s starting to act like the old boss when it comes to James, begging Deb to talk Lundy into laying low on him until they can get more information. Deb freaks out, and outs their relationship to the entire office! While all this is going on, Dexter’s trying to get the body onto his boat so he can get back in time for sunrise. Just then James steps out of the bushes! James tracked Dexter by his boat and catches him! Just as we think it will happen the pair wrestle, Dexter gets shot in the leg, and they end up in the water with Dexter strangling Doakes.

Now he’s got a bullet wound, a dead cop, and he’s tried to shake the Feds so he can’t just go back and act like Doakes went after him. So he locks him up in Jimenz’ house, and leaves him there. Holy shit!
