seriously???
okay, so i think i’m about to say something i’ve never said before about The L Word. what the fuck was up with that episode? (apologies for the swear.)
seriously. in what universe did that make for the good lesbian drama we’ve come to know and love? here’s a list of all the things i did not like about tonite’s newest edition to the fourth season:
* since when did jenny go from someone who was owning her sexuality, her sexual assault, and her personhood to someone who is so self-involved that she acts worse than i did when i was 14? if she gets her panties in a twist one more time over a book review (which we all know she will) or attempts to turn a situation around to focus on her (ala shay in the kitchen) i will punch my television.
* could they have found a more cliche storyline for bette than the T.A. hitting on the hot dean? and could her student’s skirts BE any shorter??? i understand bette has been through a lot, and it’s nice to see her get some girlie lovin’, but the writers’ choice of woman is more for the men in the audience (with her long blonde hair and legs and the almost verbatim porn storyline).
* did they just replace one hot lipstick latina with another????
* can i mention how much jenni pissed me off just one more time???
* still no mention of dana.
* helena is quickly becoming a whiny bitch, and while i know i should have seen it coming, i hate that they’re doing it.
* the “sex” scene with alice and papi. does anyone remember a much more graphic/racy show a few seasons back? i know that with ratings and popularity shows tend to tone that down, but it’s showtime for cripe’s sake. they can show a little boobie and not get in trouble!
* one more time … jennifer schecter, grow up!!!

okay, so there were a few things i liked about the episode … shane and her brother being a big one. with all that shane’s been through, and for all of her f-ed up choices surrounding carmen and sherri jaffey, i’m glad to see her taking some responsibility with her little brother. it looks as though that storyline could be the most interesting for the season.
then there’s the chancellor coming out later in life. i think that storyline could get good … here’s hoping they don’t f-it up.
i’m also super pleased to see max getting on with his life, even if it is with the boss’ daughter. i’m betting he’ll hide his trans identity as long as possible, and i’m hoping they’ll show his new love interest as someone more understanding, although i’m scared to see them use her to bust max out of the closet at work.
in all, the episode was much more disappointing than i’d hoped it would be.
