Spotlight On: Lucia Rijker

Lucia Rijker (between Leisha and Kate) is one of the latest additions to the L Word, and an amazing addition at that! Playing Dusty, Helena’s jail cell roommate, Lucia brings a large amount of experience to the role. But rather than being a hardened criminal, Lucia is a 4 time former World Champion Kickboxer and a 2 time former World Champion Boxer. Born in December 1967 in Holland, Lucia has been fighting since she was six. She’s been the subject of documentaries and television specials.

The L Word isn’t Lucia’s first foray into acting, however. The astute will recognize her from Million Dollar Baby, in which she played the last boxer Hillary Swank’s character fought. She also trained Hillary to portray the prize fighter in the movie, a credit not only to her acting skill but her teaching skill as well.

While Lucia has only been on the periphery of season five thus far, going on the lam with Helena should move her into the forefront of story lines soon (I hope!). And after the hot jail sex scene the two shared, when Dusty graces the screen again it should be hot hot hot!
