“The Lonesome Death Of … 4:7-8″ Brotherhood recap

The worst thing Michael can imagine has happened; Pete’s turned up dead, beaten to death and his body dumped. While he takes his revenge on the guilty parties, it could mean a lot of trouble for Freddie Cork and the rest of the mafia. Tommy’s dealing with some mistress issues for the Speaker, learning what some of the perks of the job are the hard way. For the full recap, keep reading.

Somebody went and drove down the Caffey’s street in a sports car and pulled a body out of their car, dumping it in an an abandoned lot on the block. Nice. I’m betting it’s Pete. And do we really need to see Deco trying to crap but unable to??? Wait, who’s the naked chick??? She tells him it’s all the Vicotin he’s been taking. At least now we know why Rose hates Colin … he was “the bastard child that sent her sister to Ireland in shame”. Michael offers to get Colin a job at the bar to help him out a bit. We can all see where this is going. Colin’s going to end up like the “bad” side of the family.

Deco’s called into his boss’s office to take a piss test, which he most definitely won’t pass. In order to make the cup go away, the fed tells him that he’s going to have to become Freddie Cork’s dirty cop until he can serve the whole shabang up to him on a silver platter: Freddie Cork, the Caffey’s, all of them. It only takes him about 5 seconds to decide to do it. While Tommy’s meeting with the Speaker over lunch, some young woman wants to speak with him and he’s obviously embarrassed about it. Tommy goes over to talk to her, under the guise of protecting the speaker, and finds out her name is Sondra. Obviously the two had an affair and she’s playing the role of jilted lover very nicely. She’s also managed to tell Tommy the Speaker doesn’t like him one bit. Back at the office the Speaker tells Tommy she and Sondra had some dirty s & m sex going on, which makes it more likely that she won’t go public (it would ruin her as well). To me that makes it seem more likely that she’ll go public.

The cops have managed to find the dumped body, and Michael gets the call that it’s Pete. Who called it??!?! Michael shows up to id the body, and poor Pete looks horrible. Eileen calls Tommy to tell her Pete’s dead and dumped in the lot across the street from Rose’s house. The police have been knocking on doors to ask what people saw, and Eileen’s freaked out and looking for some support. Tommy’s obviously not willing to give it, and so she heads over to Cath’s house. Cath realizes she’s going to have to figure out all the funeral arrangements, and asks Eileen for help, which is never going to happen. Well, except Eileen’s a dumb-ass and offers to help make some “preliminary calls”.

Colin tries to offer his support, but is turned down immediately by Rose. Michael obviously feels responsible for what happened, and Rose once again does a piss-poor job of consoling him. After Rose leaves, Michael and Colin start to plot how to figure out who did this to Pete. Tommy heads over to Sondra’s house to try to settle some sort of deal with her, keep her from causing any more trouble. Sondra immediately starts getting snotty and slutty, “shouting cock as she tries desperately to hang onto another woman’s husband.” She wants a state job out of the deal, something she can’t get fired from. Then she offers to do with Tommy what she did with the Speaker. Despite his need for a good lay, he turns her down and leaves.

Eileen’s preliminary calls turned into meeting with a funeral director pretty freakin’ fast, and although she doesn’t know what type of service they should have for Pete she’s there telling the funeral director how it’s supposed to be done. Colin heads to visit Freddie to see what they plan to do about Pete. Freddie says he doesn’t plan to do anything about it, but they end up giving him a bunch of money to help pay for things.

Deco’s still having a hard time with life, drinking Jameson’s out of a coffee cup and chain smoking while spying on Cassie (who seems to be out on a date). She sees him and goes to sit in his car to tell him to leave. She clearly is done with their marriage, but Deco just can’t seem to let it go. He tells her he’s needing to ask her advice on his turning “bad cop” and sitting in Freddie Cork’s pocket, which is probably not the best thing to be asking the woman you lied to about your shady dealings. After talking to Cassie, he heads off to meet with what turns out to be his pimp and to get some oxycotin, which he snorts before sleeping with the prostitute.

Tommy tells the Speaker what Sondra’s demands are, and he’s a little surprised that she doesn’t want more. Tommy suggests moving her to one of the colleges so she’s not directly involved in government and can’t talk to everyone about what she and the Speaker had done. Then the Speaker tells him how he went about looking for an affair, and then somehow chooses to justify it by saying it made his marriage better, made him kinder and gentler with his wife. And with that you can see the wheels turning in Tommy’s head.

Colin stops by Michael’s house, takes him out to his car to show him his friend Jerry, who was outside Club Fantasies (a strip joint) and apparently saw the guys who killed Pete. This is Colin’s way of impressing Michael. Apparently Jerry recognized one of the voices as “baby” Frank Nozzoli. This info gets passed on to Freddie, who says they can’t do anything about it because that’s messing with the whole Italian mafia at once. Michael and Colin don’t like that answer very much, and so take a whole group of guys with them and light the Nozzoli headquarters on fire. Freddie’s gonna be MAD when he finds out what they’ve done!

The whore house Deco’s been frequenting is getting busted by the cops! Who wants to bet Deco’s still inside with the hooker?! Of course he is, and he tries to climb out the window to keep from getting busted, but it doesn’t work. He gets caught and the cop that nabs him bests his face in before cuffing him. Thanks to the Captain, the judge is told that Deco was working undercover, and in return he tells them the cop isn’t the one who beat him up. He’s made it out of that scrape, but he’ll get himself into far worse trouble before his head is on right.

While Eileen’s in the shower, the funeral home calls and asks what flowers they want on the casket. When Tommy tells this to Eileen, she immediately gets defensive, but all Tommy does is put $100 on the table, to be used to pay for the flowers. So kind of him; someone must be thinking about cheating. He leaves the house and heads off to Sondra’s house, and tells her about he job they’ve set up for her while she’s getting dressed. She pegs him as wanting to do with her what Donald did, and he freaks out and screams at her, to which she responds with “you’re impotent”. That’s a couple of twelve-year-olds fighting right there.

Freddie is out to lunch with one of the Nozzolis, talking about what Baby Frank did to Pete. Freddie’s offered the two construction jobs he’s wanted, and he says that’s not good enough for him. Nozzoli says Pete’s death wasn’t about striking at Freddie, that it was just a stupid mistake. Then they go to visit Baby Frank to find out what happened the night Pete was killed. Apparently Pete was buying dances from the girl Baby Frank wanted, and when he stepped to him Pete stepped off. And then Frank tried to buy a drink for Pete to make up for it, but when Pete wouldn’t accept it he freaked out and beat him to death. Nice excuse. Outside Freddie tells Michael under no uncertain terms he is to leave Baby Frank alone or he’ll end up just like Pete, but somehow I don’t think Michael hears him properly. When Eileen asks him how much he was planning on spending on the funeral, he freaks out on her and tells her he doesn’t want any help.

Now that the whorehouse is back up and running, Deco’s not too far behind in heading back out there to get his rocks off again. This time he goes with a white girl who (with a wig on) looks just like Cassie. Class act, that one. Back at the house, Mary Rose asks if she can go to Pete’s funeral, and Tom’s not okay with that idea. While he’s trying to argue with her about it, the other two girls are being loud and causing trouble, not listening to the repeated warnings to head upstairs. Finally Tommy freaks out and screams at them, threatening them with a whipping. That night Tommy’s feeling bad for how he yelled at the girls, at least finally acknowledging he’s been feeling so angry because of Eileen and not the kids.

When Michael and Colin show up to kill Frankie, his mother shows up looking for him, and Michael and Colin find out he might already be dead. They take off, but not before Michael yells at the woman, telling her his son should have been an abortion. Passed out at the whorehouse, Deco wakes to find Freddie Cork knocking on his door, and telling him he’s wanting to buy his badge off him. He gets his money back from the night before and then leaves, but not without Deco catching what Frankie’s laying down for him. Once he sobers up, he heads off to find the cop that beat the crap out of him and punches him twice in the ribs, leaving no marks but making the point very clear.

The day o fthe funeral, Michael and Eileen are the only two at the service, and kiss and make up for the yelling match they had earlier in the week. While these two are at the funeral, Tommy’s at the bar, and starts hitting on a pretty blonde. He even uses the Speaker’s line about a favorite book. Looks like he’s found a way to change the pattern he and Eileen were stuck in.
