The Lovely Ladies Are Back!
The first episode in a new season of any show is exciting, but the first episode of the new season of the L Word is all the more so for someone as obsessed with the show as I am. I have spent the last few days watching and re-watching episodes from seasons past to prepare myself for this tremendous new season, but nothing I have done could have prepared me for what happened tonite.
From the first moments to the last seconds, I was vocally expressing my excitement and opinions … despite that horrid theme song (which I have hoped for years they would change) the show did not disappoint. Although it was missing a few characters we all grew to love, it’s obvious this show will make up for the losses with some new faces and some great new plot lines.
First up, there’s the ever-amazing Jenny.

This woman, who has changed so much in the previous seasons, seems poised to own her writing, her sexuality … basically her life in general. I’ve always had a hard time with Jenny, as she’s vacillated between coming-out and shy to outspoken feminist lesbian to struggling with her inner demons and back again. I am finally ready to see if she can keep it together long enough to draw me into her world. With her ever-evolving relationship with Max on the skids, it will be interesting to see how these two can manage to live in the same house and not tear each other apart.
Then there’s Shane.

Shane has taken her life on a strange turn, leaving Carmen at the alter and then running straight into the arms of a seriously F-ed up Sherri Jaffey. Thank god that by the end of the episode she’d come to some sense of clarity and left that crazy bitch in her drug-infested house. Unfortunately Shane’s half-assed efforts to get Carmen back were thwarted by her caring family.
Speaking of family, Shane finally made it home to an interesting suprise. Her half-brother. An interesting story line that I can’t wait to see unfold.
Then there’s the ever present-drama between Tina and Bette. I wish these two would have just called it quits before they dragged a baby into their messy world, but as they seem hell-bent on creating drama not only for each other but this innocent little girl, let’s hope their storyline brings them peace this year. I doubt it, however, and I’m honestly tired of it all.
So much else has happened, I feel like I’ll need several days to digest it all before I can properly examine the whole episode. Alice seems much more together, Kit and Angus are making some tough decisions, and Helena is dealing with “poverty” as only she knows how. There’s a strange (and dare i say Greasy) French woman in the picture, and with three new characters being brought onto the scene in the next few episodes, I doubt this show will let me slow down and catch my breath anytime soon.

And as always, let me know what you thought about the show! Post your comments, your predictions, your loves and hates, and help me make this space as diverse as possible! You never know … what you say might change my view of the whole show!

Amen to that terrible theme song. I hate it, but I love the show.

I LOVE The L Word!
But, if this blog is about other showtime shows as well, do you think you might could get some commentary on Dexter up on here? I fell in love with that show this past fall too!
Thanks!

Mia Kirshner is probably the hottest woman ever. I’ve never actually watched the L Word but she make a lot of appearances on 24, and I’m in love with her.
Can’t wait to read your stuff about Dexter, the absolute best show on Showtime.
Aaron.

i so agree about the theme song. my husband and i always fast forward through that bit because it drives us mad.
we are obsessed with this show as well. we felt like the acting in this episode felt a bit forced but then again, it has been like that in all of the first shows of the seasons. i think they just need to warm up a bit. i missed the girls too and it was fabulous to see them back. although…it was tough to not see Dana and Carmen.
and what is up with Marina and the black hat?!?!?
