the power of shane
I decided to wait a day to write about the new episode of The L Word in an effort to let it soak in, marinate in me, and maybe give me more positive things to say. I was pleasantly surprised this episode, as I only wanted to punch Jenny twice, was once again floored by the Shane/Shay story arc, and rolling around laughing at the lube discussion Angus had with two other straight men.
And the more I’ve sat with this episode, the more I’ve liked it. (aside from wanting to punch Jenny in the face for her whiny behavior, and her repeated attempts to make everyone feel so sorry for her that her book was not as widely praised as she might have hoped).
I am consistently left amazed at the growth in Shane’s character and her budding relationship with her brother. It was so neat to watch her fight for him when it came to schooling, and to see her truly stepping into that role of big sister and parent figure for a child in a time when he could be left in the dust and floundering. It’s was also quite interesting to see her attempts to help out Helena as well. Is Shane finally growing up, realizing there’s more to life than sex?
With Shane taking on a more adult role in the show, what is to come for our other characters? Stay tuned for more commentary to come …

This is show is an A+++. I can’t totally agree with the comments about Jenny, and that’ only due to the fact I’m only on my third episode (literally, first time viewer).
As far as Shane goes, (can’t go to in-depth- same reasoning as Jenny, however her character has a strong following where I was able to get some history), she’s self reliant and I think is grown up maybe too fast in some cases, but sometimes more than her counter parts, but now she has to make decisions that reflect not only on her (where she can defend/justify on her own) but for her brother who is totally relaint on her. It will be an interesting season, I just hope they don’t put her in another ’serious’ relationship.. Shane has to be Shane her flings or the return of Cherie (who’s name keeps poping up)
